Didn’t realize that! Appreciate the heads-up!
This is sure to dip but the team is currently averaging 90.3 PPG. They averaged 70.0 last year and were only averaging 72.8 PPG through their first 6 games.
Another note is that freshman Te’Yala Delfosse made her Michgan debut against LBU and had 10 points (2-3 from 3), 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. So, potentially another impact freshman.
248th to 61st in tempo is part of it
Torvik also implies that their slate thus far this year is absolute garbage outside of South Carolina (4 teams 260th or worse, 2 of them worse then 350th)
It makes sense, considering their schedule so far has been bad. Michigan, to their credit, has been blowing them out. Belmont will be the second-best team Michigan has faced thus far.
We’ll learn more about this team once they start their gauntlet against Oklahoma with Akron sandwiched between UCLA, USC, and OSU games.
She looked confident! Good for her for getting into her first game action and putting up those numbers. I don’t know how much PT there is this year for her, but that was sure encouraging for the future!
Judging from KBA’s interview on The Michigan Insider, it sounded like Te’Yalla was returning from an injury. So maybe she had been thought of as a rotation player prior to that?
That is an absolutely brutal stretch. 4 top 10-15 teams in three weeks spanning the holidays.
If they can come away with 2-2, i’d call it a success. It’ll be interesting to see how Michigan matchup against UCLA and USC.
I learned today that the Women’s Sports Network is free on the Tubi app (also free)
If you care to watch
They are in a dogfight at the half vs Belmont
Belmont is #69 on TorVik with Michigan favored by 7
Yeah Belmont has won their conference title 6 of the 7 years this coach has been there and the conference tournament 5 of the 7 years
So I feel comfortable saying they are a very good mid major
I know depth in women’s hoops is greatly improving but I’m not sure if it’s improved to the point these smaller schools can/should actually hang
They’ve won an ncaa tournament game twice recently. Seems safe to think they’re a non guaranteed win
These has been barely a single quality look from either team so far - defenses really mucking it up
Brooke Daniels with a good shift here
Swords coming to life too
Grabovskaia would be in the dictionary next to “stiff”
Michigan won the second half by 15 prior to KenPom time, good close, especially by the three freshmen
Mila Holloway/Aden Holloway is giving me a Jeremy/Jeremiah Fears thing where I don’t get how the hard-nosed floor general and the soul-less hucker came from the same family
(The fears split is different qualities but you get my point)
On their to wrap up their division title of the Fort Myers tip off here
SYLA with 19 through 3
I’ve been waiting for that!
