Did he start out that way? Dunno. The spotlight changes people, sometimes fast and sometimes slow. So does accumulating lots of money. But this is definitely what he is now.

My memory is that we learned to laugh at announcers identifying Beilein with the 1 3 1 almost from the start. Here and there in a pinch. Something that he had experimented with at WVU.

Year one we ran it a lot. After that not very much but on our almost come back against Duke in the tournament we used it exclusively for the last 5 minutes and they didn’t know what to do

I’d agree that that had a bigger impact but Kenyon Martin missing the 2000 NCAA Tourney certainly helped as well.

MSU only up 4 at the half vs WMU. Not a great 1st half after the UD Mercy game

Western Michigan has the lead back down to 4 at the under 12 in the second half. MSU has turned it over on 5 straight possessions, most of them unforced.
WMU was picked to finish last in the MAC and is #237 on KenPom.
So does MSU move up in the rankings because the Duke game or drop because of the WMU and UDM games? Michigan dropped because of the Oakland game

This MSU team may possess a lot of latent skill, but I don’t see a super-physical MSU prototype out there this year.
