Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Hummel is good, I feel he’s done a few U-M games this year.

He was the color commentator in that game where they were trying to work out how probability works with kenpom’s season predictions for Northwestern.

Obviously he’s an awesome commentator, but that was still hilarious.

I just have so much Stephen Bardo exhaustion.

Bardo isn’t offensively bad like I personally find Dakich, he just has some truly brutal takes, but yeah. I have no clue how the fox family of networks has so few commentators and prolonged exposure has taken its toll.

Since positive ref stuff hardly ever gets mentioned, I just want to go on record and say that the Big Ten refs’ handling of Brad Davison in the last couple of years has been most pleasurable to me, at least of games that I’ve seen. It seems like they hardly ever give him those flops (not watching this game, just popped into my head).

Wisconsin looks positively rejuvenated on offense. Facing Northwestern at home has to feel so good compared to Michigan and Rutgers on the road.

Pod shout-out thanks to Reuvers/Roovers

I’m having a convo elsewhere and am curious as to what y’all think. Assuming a Hunter Dickinson return and Franz exit, who do you think is starting at the 4 spot next season.

  • Moussa Diabate
  • Brandon Johns
  • Caleb Houstan
  • Other current player or commit (Williams, Tschetter, whoever)
  • Transfer Portal

That was an easy choice. At least for me.

I thought it was kinda easy too and was surprised to get pushback. I haven’t really actually talked about it, so I figured I might be missing something. Doesn’t look like it based on the results so far. Thanks for voting, guys.

I just realized that Brandon Gaudin and Robbie Hummel have very similar voices.

Per the MSU convo above, their best win right now is Rutgers? Or Duke? Don’t think they have a win over a tourney bound team.

I guess I’m not necessarily sure that will be the best lineup, but it seems like the most likely to start.

I agree. I actually think Diabate could be dynamic coming off the bench at both the 4/5 but there isn’t an obvious other choice. I guess Juwan could reward Johns if he stays and start him. Houstan would look great in that spot, but then who starts at the three? Williams?

Chase Audige with the step-in 20-foot fadeaway. You’ll be shocked to hear it was woefully short I’m sure.

I disagree quite a bit on this. I think the NCAA is putting on a tournament come hell or high water. They figured it out for football and will for basketball. Granted they’re different sports with different post seasons.

The B1G will finish its season. Maybe all 20 games won’t be played across the board, but they will finish the season.

I agree with you. I just set low expectations so as to be happily surprised if what I want to happen actually happens.

That was topped by his play later when a teammate got and and-1 but while the ball was still on the rim Audige jumped up and grabbed the rim, costing them two points. Collins nearly went ballistic. What a player…

When Robbie Hummel is trying to come up with polite way to say that Buie and Audige need to learn how to play smart basketball you know NW is on their way to another failed season. I know they have had a tough schedule…but still.

Northwestern is back to 72nd on KenPom, which is 3 spots below their preseason spot. Boo Buie was good for like 3 games and now he’s almost worse than Audige, which is saying something since Audige is audaciously awful

Gut check night for #39 Rutgers @ Penn State (#43/48). Rutgers is -1.5 in Vegas but +2 to Torvik and KP with a ~44% chance of winning.

#33 Indiana is +10 @ #3/5 Iowa. Probably not a realistic candidate to win outright but maybe this is a game where you keep an eye on the second-half body language.

And on Sunday they play each other. Fun!
