Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Guys, it’s easy. Just never discuss anything and we won’t have any issues. Okay?

It s impossible to answer that question without being critical of Rutgers players.

True enough lol. I think just talking basketball is fine

That’s a fair take, msjb2. I don’t agree with it being 100% OK, but it is a fair take. We must always cheer for our guys and hope that they do well. Please understand. I am very old school. I didn’t grow up with social media and so I may have a different view than some, maybe most. In addition I have coached hundreds, if not thousands, of kids over the years and I am VERY protective of them!

I thank you for your point, and I agree with part of it. I also know I am night necessarily “right,” it’s just what I believe.

I have so many passionate thoughts on this topic but cannot say them without releasing the fury of a thousand krakens so I’m going to slide out of here before I tear this entire forum apart bit by bit and drive off Dylan’s paying customers.

Along that train of thought, the idea of ten B1G teams in the tourney seems pretty remote. As of right now, I only see seven for sure (U-M, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue, Ohio St, Minnesota) with an assumption that one more (MSU or Rutgers are my guesses) wins enough to get in.

I’ll go with:

Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue, Ohio State, Minnesota, Indiana and… Michigan State (to much uproar )

That’s still a lot of bids.

Crazy to think Rutgers won’t make the tourney

Your choice of Indiana is interesting. They’re 3-4, so if all goes well COVID-wise, 13 games left and best case scenario, only need to be 9-11, so 6-7 for the rest. I’m looking at their schedule and can’t see six wins.

MSU - will they even be able to make up their games to the extent where they have an argument? How many have they missed? Aren’t they going to be sidelined still during the upcoming bye week? How many games are teams going to be able to actually make up in that week and the second one? Are we talking every other day if necessary? Why not use the conference tournament week as another bye for teams who choose to do so? Or are we still assuming that the tourney will be played? Do schools have the power to individually opt out?

Talked about most of this on the pod. The short answer is no one really knows. Going to all be figured out on the fly. With Kevin Pauga’s involvement in the league office, I’m sure MSU will get something figured out though.

I’m skeptical. I think the this whole thing is going to go up in flames pretty soon. MSU too. I’ll be surprised if we have an NCAA tourney, or if even half those games get played if they do decide to stick it out. The prospect of sticking 68 teams in a city like that without massive testing and quarantining first sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. That’s why conference tournaments should be banned. Teams should need to go a full week of testing and quarantine before being allowed to step foot in Indy.

Well, I hope not.

If people do things intelligently it is possible/even maybe likely to succeed, but relying on conference and NCAA officials to do things intelligently is like relying on Archie Miller to win you basketball games.

I hope not too for the sake of Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown, as they deserve to play in March Madness.

No kidding about the NCAA

I would say that if the NCAA Tournament goes up in flames that you’d probably say there’s a better chance more guys come back for an extra year.

Haha, you asked basically everything that was discussed on the pod. And basically all those answers are a big ol’ :man_shrugging:

I was way too focused on enjoying the B-Quinn tournament pronunciation to listen to the discussion, that’s my bad.

Also how about that spicy ghost pepper level Livers argument. That was crazy. That’s what keeps me coming back, these people are passionate about the sport and aren’t afraid to show it. I actually agree with Dylan on that which seems to be a rarity on the forums. But I won’t discuss why here so as not to derail this thread.

I think they would resort to a delay and full bubble before they give up on it. They just played a bunch of football games and actually MOVED them to include more fans! I don’t see the NCAA blowing it up. It may change, it may get weird, it may not be safe, it may even suck relative to past years…but I don’t know that they have the guts to cancel it.

Why do we never get Robbie Hummel on color?! :sob: I’m so jealous of other teams’ fans!
