He should be getting 30 minutes a game. I’d take him over all of their other wings.
Eh, I guess the question is how much do you trust his shooting? Iowa’s other wings give you really scary shooting threats that you are terrified to play off of. Murray doesn’t really have the volume yet.
He had a career 87.6% FT% in high school. I can only find MaxPreps stats for 4 games, but it list him as being 9/18 from three. Personally, I trust his shooting, he should be a 40% guy.
I think he’ll be a solid perimeter shooter but he’s not a Wieskamp, Fredrick or Bohannon level shooter.
No, but he provides a lot more than those guys defensively.
Yep, which is why he’s playing almost 20 mins/game of late. Iowa is winning games by scoring 90 points every night though so it’s an interesting balance. Are you better off doubling down on offense or trying to improve defensively?
I definitely like what they get from a Murray-Garza lineup way more than a Nunge-Garza lineup.
Keegan Murray is older than Hunter Dickinson, so make sure to refer to him as a first year player instead of freshman
Wait are we discussing legitimate reasons Iowa’s defense has improved??? I’m so proud of this discussion!!!
No, we’re saying Keegan Murray is a better defender than anyone else on the roster. Iowa’s defense is still plenty bad.
Ahhh, that’s more like it. I can dream.
Interesting stretch for Iowa coming up: IU, @ILL, OSU, @IU.
If they go 3-1 they are probably in a really good spot.
Dylan how do you feel right now about Purdue? Seems like a interesting team
I think they are a bit similar to Purdue last year. I think Matt Painter can get them into the NCAA Tournament but I don’t think they are particularly “good”. Really key resume spot on the road for U-M on Friday.
I think the way Painter handles these rosters makes him a top 10 coach. I know there was a discussion over the great coaches in the big ten a few days back, and I think I would categorize him as one
Per bastion of objectivity Graham Couch, the preferred nomenclature is “newcomer.”
It’s the Anthony Davis route. Supposedly grew a few inches after being a guard prospect.
Also found this for prep school stats.
Me too, and that’s not a knock on Nunge, who’s looked good this year. Murray, however, has been great.
there is essentially nobody in the Torvik database amongst high major players (he goes back through 2008) that have racked up the rate stats that Murray has in the areas of offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, blocks, and steals. Nevermind that he also adds in fairly good shooting splits in limited action. Willie Cauley-Stein is probably the most similar player profile and he was definitely not a shooter of any sort.
Fascinating prospect to watch going forward as his minutes and usage increase. If he can come close to maintaining the efficiency he would be a possible lottery pick.
OSU in the first 11 games of the season: 78/250 from 3, or 31.2%.
OSU these last 3 games: 31/70 from 3, or 44.2%.
So far tonight: 4/6 from 3
Some of that is guys coming back from injury/worse 3 point shooters getting injured so better ones are playing, but either OSU is benefiting from some 3 point luck right now or midseason they morphed into a scary good team.
Williams riding the pine again after early foul trouble. Not promising for Purdue; was torching OSU very early on.
