Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Update: OSU is 8/16 from 3 this first half

Bizarre box score with the shooting splits.

Purdue just drills a stepback three in a tie game then fouled to force Washington to the line with 2.4 left. First one good.

Purdue wins

As someone who watched 3 seconds of this game, Jaden Ivey is a cold blooded killer

Yeah but he going to be really good when all is said and done. I like his game

Jim Ferry(PSU interim HC) got reprimanded for calling out the refs after last game against Purdue. What else can you do when the refs screw you over besides saying something?

You can blame the refs, but if they’re consistent and don’t blow calls down the stretch of a close one, then the players have a chance to decide the game. That’s the way it works in the large majority of college basketball games. When your team isn’t very good, and they aren’t winning, coach has to do something to take player’s backs & keep them fighting for you.

Nobody loves mid-range jumpers quite like Penn State.

Purdue might be the hottest team in the conference next to Iowa. I think Purdue is going to be a tougher test than Minnesota was on Saturday.

Purdue’s ability to win on the road is impressive but they also have a lot of close wins. Sign of good coaching but also a team that can’t really blow anyone out other than Archie Miller.

I guess we will know more soon. I think it’s just a team adjusting to some new pieces Gillis/Ivey/Edey/Newman. Michigan is a big game for them but after that they have some winnable games. I wouldn’t pick them to make a run or anything but they don’t ask how, they just ask how many.

Would anyone have believed that Michigan has the best defense in conference play by almost 5 points at the start of the season?

Some of that is some three point luck on a night like tonight, but that’s absolutely wild.

This is starting to look more like the tiers from the preseason
at least the bottom half. (Other than MSU of course.)

Michigan had some wonderful duels with Purdue in the later Beilein years, and Matt Painter–in my opinion–has always done more with less. I expect nothing less than a tough battle for Michigan. I’m eager to see whether they can take their home poise out now and win on the road.
