Michigan Women's Hoops

Watched a replay of the game last night as I didn’t get a chance to catch it live. Started off with hot shooting from deep and never let our foot off the gas. Not sure what N’W was thinking sticking with that zone for that long. It was either an open three or a layup for Hillmon and Brown.

Michigan played a close game with Nebraska tonight. Naz finished with 35 points and 22 boards - 13 offensive (!) and 9 defensive. Program record for rebounds in a game

Leah Brown is out with COVID related issue. Second best player. Their shooting was awful tonight but had 30 offensive rebounds.

That’s a crazy amount of O rebounding.

Naz Hillmon is out here looking like Wilt Chamberlain!

I did ask a couple of people who I thought may have insights into this and they didn’t know either. The Fabs were down again last night, for whatever reason.

The mystery continues!

Looking at the rest of the month:
Illinois, @Wisconsin, MSU, @OSU, Purdue, @MSU.

Illinois, Wisconsin and Purdue should be wins. Split with MSU. OSU, hard to say how good they are as they’ve played only two conference games against bottom feeders. Nonconference play they only faced mid majors.

So I would hope to head into February with a 6-2 or 7-1 conference record.

Any idea when Brown is back? It has to be 14 days since NW, best case right?

Beating Illinois 28-17 at the half. Defense has been solid. Offense looks a bit lost at times without Leigha Brown out there to make something happen. Luckily Naz is hard to stop even when she’s the whole offense.

M wins again, 70-50. Offense looked a bit smoother in the second half. Defense was strong all game, but Illinois is not very good.

Naz had another strong game with 24 points and 13 rebounds and got to rest for the last 6 or so minutes of the game.

Dilk continues to mix good with bad. She had 11 points, 9 boards, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers.

60-32 with just under 7:00 to go.

“Wisconsin has been held in check offensively.”

Now where have I heard that before… :sunglasses:

I wonder what the latest point in a season has been that both a men’s and women’s team has been undefeated.

They said this was the first time the women have started 10-0 in program history, so it’s at least a school record. I’m guessing that only UConn might’ve have done better at some point.

MSU doesn’t want the smoke. I don’t blame them

Michigan is up to 11 in the rankings, their highest ranking in program history.

Also a 4 seed according to ESPN’s bracketology, although it hasn’t been updated since last Tuesday. They’re a 3 seed according to College Sports Madness (no idea how credible they are) Women's Basketball Bracketology | College Sports Madness

They have a matchup with 17 OSU on Thursday, which will be our second matchup in B1G play against a ranked team. A win keeps up undefeated and only behind Maryland due to the number of games played. Also puts some separation between us and OSU, who is in 4th place currently.

Need Leah Brown back for that game.
