Michigan Women's Hoops

Things certainly could change but it’s now been a little over two weeks since the season ended, and over a week since the portal opened and Mathurin is the only transfer. I get the feeling that everyone else in the rotation is planning on returning.
They only have 2 incoming Freshman so (with Macy Brown likely out for the year) there’s currently 4 available roster spots. This past season they only used 14 of the 15 spots and minutes could be hard to come by for anyone in the portal. I think it’s either add a top player or develop from within. The spots or roles I see where minutes could be had is if there’s an great big who is better than Sofi (and it’s possible that Fope Ayo is that player) a back-up PG, and a knockdown shooter. Team 3-point shooting was the lowest it’s been since the '21-'22 season.

I’m interested in seeing what Devin Cosgriff can bring. From her highlights, she looks pretty quick and athletic. Whether that immediately transfers to the next level will be something to watch for.

Yeah only rotation departures are Browns handful of minutes (injury) and BQD. I’d assume Delfosse is getting BQD’s minutes (which will also increase team size substantially, but BQD as we all know played very big). So you figure the minutes to fill are Delfosse’s 19 and Brown’s…mostly under 10? Then the question of whether we can find a “tougher” five than what we’ve had, no offense to Sofilkanich.

KBA hasn’t really landed a big time transfer in her tenure, (BQD the most impactful thus far), and there is a pretty long history of players stepping into substantial roles in their junior/senior here, so it wouldn’t SHOCK me to see Byars, Fields, or Dunbar pick some up, or one/more of the freshmen

I’d argue that Leigha Brown is a hair above BQD for impact. She was a bucket and helped take some of the pressure off Naz. But BQD was awesome.

I totally forgot about Brown. You’re right.

Who is the player on the far left? Is that Van Timmeren?

In the still or the video?

In the still it’s Macy Brown

In the video it does appear to be Ally VanTimmeren

Yeah, I meant the video. Sorry for being unclear.

Man, if that’s her, it really does not look like her.

Does Sofi have a sister? Because I think she has more resemblance to Sofi than VanTimmeren.

Whoever it is isn’t tagged in the first picture, either, so I’d guess it’s just a friend or family member. She’s standing next to Ashley in both the still and the video.

Edit: I’m sticking with sister: Duke Welcomes Taylor Sofilkanich to the Sisterhood - Duke University

Okay yeah, you’re definitely right!

https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/basketball/2026/04/michigan-womens-basketball-urgently-needs-supporters-to-contribute-nil-money.html

“Our team urgently needs $100,000 in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) funding by Friday, April 17th , to retain our elite talent at Michigan,” according to an email sent to season-ticket holders Tuesday. “Every contribution, no matter the amount, will significantly help us chip away at our funding gap.”

Sounds potentially dire. Really hope we can adequately compensate our top players so we don’t lose them

Really solid addition. Would like to see KBA add an experienced big or 2

She’s listed at 6’6", so that fits the bill. Also, she’s from Sweden so there’s no concern about wanting to play close to home. She also is just a sophomore.
