Michigan Women's Hoops

It turns out Sam & Ira were talking about things yesterday.

I’m still in mid-listen but it sounds like no names are mentioned, just that KBA has a good track-record of replacing previous coaches who have moved up/moved on.

Neither Michigan nor MSU seem to recruit the state all that well anymore. MSU used to get most of the top players, but they’ve only gotten one top 100 in state recruit the last two classes and Michigan has 0. Michigan’s not a huge state in terms of talent, but enough that we should probably get one or two solid in staters every year. I understand when those in the top 20 or so go to other programs as the women’s game doesn’t have as much parity, but it’s getting there gradually.

That’s a problem IMO. '21 class was the strongest year for in-state recruits and all but one went out of state and that happen to be MSU. If you’re a P5 school that has a top 50 in-state recruit, the expectation should be they should put a fence around the state and not let other school poach Michigan.

2022 class has 3 in-state players on the Super 60 list. Detroit Edison once again have another elite recruit for 4-5 years in a row(!!!) in the top 50 but they all opted to go out of state. The best of the bunch from that school is Rickea Jackson who is at Mississippi State and is expected to be a top 10 pick in the WNBA draft.

Our two recruits are from the MW, so it’s a little easier to stomach but mostly agree with you. Program isn’t quite established enough to recruit wherever we want. Juwan could completely ignore the state of Michigan and still pull in top 10 classes. KBA isn’t there yet.

3 top 60 recruits in Michigan for 2022, so we’ll see.

If anyone finds a site that talks H.S. Women’s recruiting (beyond rankings), please do share it.

Well, here’s something.

We’ve made KK Branson’s (#27 ESPN) Final 12 and Chance Gray’s (#14 ESPN) Final 9.

Apparently, we have two commits for 2022 as well:
Kate Clarke, 6’0" and Alyssa Crocket 6’2". Both are from Indiana. Crocket is ranked #36 on ESPN.

We’re also ranked #11 in ESPN’s Way Too Early rankings.

I couldn’t find a better place to post this, so…

There is a GREAT front page article on the Michigan women’s gymnastics championship performance (complete with key video clips) posted on MGoBlog. It is a must read for Michigan fans (or anyone who appreciates good writing).

I will echo this. Phenomenal piece - regardless of which sport it was covering.

I almost couldn’t watch the final beam performances embedded in the post even though I knew the event was over. The clutchness was beyond belief

The pictures aren’t too shabby as well

The writing reminds me a bit of vintage Mitch Albom.

Kim Mulkey left Baylor for LSU. Never saw that coming.

I wonder if the ncaa is sniffing around Baylor again🤔

LSU is not the place to go to avoid the NCAA.

Mostly surprised because Baylor is a private Christian university that fits into Mulkey’s personal values a little more. But she is from Louisiana and played and coached at LaTech.

Mark Emmert is a former Chancellor at LSU and the AD is his Son-in-law’s stepfather. I don’t think Emmert is going to look too hard at LSU.

Now, Cleveland St.! Throw the book at them!

I heard somewhere she was upset about not having the influence in the AD she felt she deserved as far as planning the new arena.

I did not realize that! Thanks for the background info on her. I was more poking fun at going from one university with a questionable history to another.

Easy way to alienate one of the best coaches at your school (and country).
