Not that yesterday’s news changed anything but is KBA now the longest tenured coach at Michigan?
I know over the last 4 or so years, we’ve changed our football, men’s basketball, hockey, baseball, softball, volleyball, women’s gymnastics, and field hockey coach.
There’s a few sports that I don’t follow too closely, like soccer, swimming, golf, etc. But KBA is in Year 14 in A2. She’s got to be among the most veteran coaches at Michigan, if not #1.
Great job by Alex Miller and Kelin Flynn calling the game against Akron on BIG+. At the 3:15 point in the 3rd quarter Holloway made a great pass to Swords for a fastbreak bucket. Kelin called it a “dime dropping delight.”
We lost to Long Island Lutheran by 2 points my freshman year (I was on JV). We had them down 6 late but a certain PF with terrible hands choked the game away. We had them spooked, though, by our tiny gym and the minuscule area available to run the baseline. So close.
I hadn’t realized they were a play sports school. New info to me.
Interesting. I just noticed both the men and women teams play on the same days the rest of this month, and the 21st games are both at Crisler, women at noon and men at 4, and women will be doing their west coast trip during the new year (@ Oregon the 29th, @ Washington new year’s day)
Men’s team Season Ticket holders are eligible to receive free tickets to the Women’s game on Sunday, which we took advantage of. The free seats were actually slightly worse than our men’s seat locations. Since our lower bowl men’s seats are fairly average in location, I interpreted that to be a positive sign that fans are, at least, showing interest in the women’s team and attendance is increasing. Looking forward to seeing them in person for the first time this season.
I feel like the team would have benefitted from at least one more high major non-conference game. There was a lot of hype after the Notre Dame and UConn games and then there has been a bit of a lull for the past month or so due to bad competition. Having one more marquee game might have helped carry the hype through to Big Ten season and increased attendance.
Syracuse is one half away from being 11-1. We’re their only loss.
The main thing missing, aside from not having a ton of support (from both the students and community) compared to other top-20 programs, is that none of their big non-con games have been at home. Having at least one would’ve been nice. I don’t know how easy that would be. It’s really too bad the B1G/ACC Challenge went by the wayside.
No but that wasn’t what the original post was about.
All of the reasons that the men’s team plays neutral games apply to women’s hoops too.
I guess it doesn’t really add to December hype like the original post, but it is similar to the Michigan/Duke game where some hype in Jan/Feb is good too.
WBB team getting national FOX tv slots seems like a good thing (Day game on MLK).
