In a recent instagram post, the women’s team was discussing best Ann Arbor food options, and Olivia Olson said “Good Time Charleys” which has me serious re-considering the entire ceiling of this team
I’m not going to claim Charley’s had some elite food or anything. But in undergrad it was by far my favorite spot to go hang out/eat/drink, as well as most of my friends. When we come back to AA as old alum now, it’s still our favorite spot.
So I have no issues with that answer
Well now I have to question everything you’ve written
It’s a vibes spot, I don’t know what else to say. At least a decade ago, you could get a relatively cheap pitcher and some decent food that wasn’t too expensive. Just an easy spot to go hang out that was my preferred vibes over Rick’s or Study Lounge, but still a South U spot.
Once again, rational 30 something year old me knows it’s just kind of a generic college town bar. But for 18-21 year old me it was exactly what I wanted, so I’m always to going to love it
It was the spot for drinks (food is ehhhh). My friends and I stupidly thought it was a good idea to drink 2 long islands. lol That was in 2010 so ![]()
I had many a fun nights playing quarters there where I declared I was “winning" when I was actually losing because I got to drink most of the beer in our pitchers.
Charlie’s Long Islands on St. Patrick’s Day after trips to Conor O’Neills and Ashley’s earlier in the morning was a bad idea.
My dad humblebrags to this day that he was a bouncer at GTC for a summer. The way he tells it, he was the good cop who pointed out the backup OL that you’d talk to after him if you couldn’t figure out how to behave properly.
Hey, I am not besmirching GTC as a fun place to have a ludicrously large Long Island Iced Tea.
The question was “what is your go to place in Ann Arbor for great food?”
If the answer is GTC you have a sensory disorder.
GTC ‘s opened in 1979 between my junior and senior years. Close proximity to East Engineering where all my classes were. Great 4PM Friday happy hours brown nosing the EE Profs!
Per Olson’s preseason interview with Brian Boesch on the Defend the Block podcast, she has a tradition of getting “gas station food” with her father before every game. So Charley’s may seem like haute cuisine to her.
Correlation: sensory disorder–> GTC
Causation: GTC–> sensory disorder
I’m a nerd who doesn’t go out a ton, but I was out last night at Rick’s and it is now my favorite spot because they were playing the Troy game against San Diego State and at first I was upset it wasn’t the live game Troy was playing in against USC but then I thought this is epic because I can take green tea shots with friends and scout the Magoon Gwath and Miles Byrd duo for Monday
My first memory there was one of my friends’ father taking us there and playing my first video arcade game. Probably Asteroids.
One player and Dusty May consider chili a type of soup…
I am a little embarrassed to admit that after spending 4 years on campus (touchdown cafe was our go to) and never living further than 45 minutes from campus… I’ve never been to Charley’s
Step it up to a broken down golf cart as opposed to green tea.
RIP Touchdowns
Is this a good time to trade insults and impugn people’s characters about what is the best burrito on campus before Dylan nukes the thread?
On an on-topic note, I am pretty excited to see the Women try to measure up to UConn. It would mean a lot if we could give them a good game and show how far the team has travelled.
