Is there any restriction for players leaving early to the WNBA? I would guess not but I can’t recall anyone going early.
With NIL, there may be less incentive to go, as Juju might be able to make more money at USC.
Almost no one ever goes early to the wnba. Even pre NIL it rarely happened I don’t think. And with nil it’ll never happen
Brittney Griner played all 4 years at Baylor. If she didn’t make the leap, I don’t know who would. Although Baylor is probably one of those schools that was doing “NIL” before NIL.
I think Clark stayed for her senior year at Iowa, in part, because she could make more money than she would earn with a rookie player contract. Of course, she could have signed endorsement deals in the WNBA.
I think she already had endorsement deals last year.
I thought there was a 3-year rule for the WNBA similar to baseball but I could be making that up…
…looked it up…
It’s good for college basketball, and probably delivers better quality to the WNBA, but it’s unfair to the athletes.
Yeah, I guess that’s fair…but it isn’t like literally every pro team sport has its own restrictions.
They’re the only one I can think of that doesn’t allow for undergrads to enter.
Football you have to be a junior.
Right. Aren’t juniors undergraduates?
Sorry…don’t drink and forum post. I was thinking under classmen. I think the reality, sadly, is that the WNBA doesn’t pay very well so it isn’t as impactful especially with NIL as the other sports. But all of the sports restrict draft eligibility in some way so it isn’t that extreme and I think there are some foreign leagues that would be options other than college maybe.
I do think it is generally good for the sport to have some restrictions, but maybe women’s basketball should follow the football or baseball models.
I something like think that would be fair.
Syla is practicing!
Swords and Olson are doing their best to keep up with #1 UCLA but haven’t gotten much from anyone else and the Bruins’ size-advantage is huge. We’re down 13 in the 3rd. Swords has 21.
After falling behind by 15, we’re on an 8-0 run. Timeout, Bruins.
We cut it to 6 at one point and end the 3rd down 7.
Swords has 25, Olson has 12, and Hobbs just got to 8 points.
28 for Swords. A new career-high.
We got to within 7 about halfway thrift l through the 4th but lost by 16. 30 points for Swords and 17 for Olson.
