Credit to the ladies for really working hard on defense. And credit to OU for their defense that completely kept Michigan out of any rhythm.
I do wish that they listed weights for players because I’d like to know how much of a size advantage Beers had. I’m guessing that even Grabovskaia was giving up 20-25 pounds. Beers was still kept in relative check until the 4th quarter and still was held well below her scoring average. Kudos to our defense.
She’s listed the same height as Grabovskaia, so I’m gessing 20+ pounds is reasonable. She’s an inch taller than Hobbs, but Hobbs is really slight, so I’m guessing 35-40. Vs. Kampschroeder, who also drew her a decent amount and is slight AND 4 inches shorter…it’s a lot. I’ll be honest - I’m not that impressed by Beers (I know last night was one of her worst games), but didn’t seem to be a lot of art to her game, just pounding defenders back with her shoulder and laying it in.
Agreed entirely. I must admit that I hadn’t seen her play before last night, so perhaps I’m just selling her short on a small sample size, but she basically seemed to play bully-ball because of her size. I didn’t really see any finesse or nice footwork that would lead me to believe she could be nearly as effective if she wasn’t just way overpowering smaller defenders with her size advantage.
We’ve seen some talented bigs throughout the past several years in the Big Ten, and Beers left a lot to be desired in comparison.
She’s got some seriously broad shoulders, though. I can appreciate using your best attributes to get easy buckets.
While I think this year still has a lot of promise, next year is even more exciting with recruits like this joining our young squad.

Michigan leads Akron 51-29 at halftime. Kampschroeder has 17 points (five 3s) at half.

Hopefully nothing serious
Any updates on Sword? Saw she came back to the bench wrapped, but no boot.
greta has had a week.
she spent meaningful minutes tuesday night getting absolutely clobbered in the low post by reagan beers (and, by the way, did pretty well, despite giving up a couple inches and 30 pounds), then lights it up on friday.
she’s become one of my favorites - here’s hoping she gets to enjoy some southern california sun this weekend.
We slid down to #23 in the new rankings.
Anyone hear anything on Swords’ status for tonight? I haven’t seen anything on twitter about it.

She’s out for tonight
I wish we had more info.
KBA has had enough calling a timeout 90 seconds in down 2-0
Pretty good D about half the time. Gotta tighten up
8-3 run after!
Well, we battled for 2.5 quarters before it fell apart.
Tough loss for Michigan who couldn’t get anything going in the 2nd half. Swords absence did not help.
I was looking at Juju’s Torvik stats. She has definitely improved. Her usage went down but her efficiency went up. Her ORTG went from 101 to 121 which is a huge jump. She’s a definite #1 pick whenever she declares for the WNBA draft.
