Nah, there is very few NIL dollars for women’s basketball unless you’re a national star. So most of these young ladies are transferring for other reasons.

I would pretty shocked if there were any kind of substantial NIL in place for women’s hoops at Michigan. Somewhere like UConn, South Carolina, or LSU? Definitely. But not here (or at least not yet).
Sam Webb said on his radio show this morning that Pheilia entering the portal is her testing the waters to see what might be out there for her NIL-wise. He had not looked into Evans’ motivations yet.

Random thought. I think most of us are in agreement that the current system where the athletic department can’t pay players through what they make in ticket sales, TV deals, etc., instead having to have donors give to a collective is dumb.
Could you make Women’s Basketball Games a “suggested donation” and have fans use something like DipJar where they can cashlessly donate to a women’s basketball collective when they go to a game?
Or is that too much coordination between Univ and collective?

Basically everything related to NIL has been deregulated. It is the Wild Wild West now.

This is a pretty great idea. The ticket revenue that the AD is forgoing has to be a rounding error on $170 million. Make it fun and player centric. Might even get a crowd once in a while if it’s free except for the donation.

What is the NCAA process/timeline for AD revenues to players as ‘NIL’? Would be great structure for AD to have periodic activations (hate that word)—at the end of the first quarter, eg, AD will triple donations made before halftime.
Not great when your young transfer is visiting exclusively other B1G schools
