Jordan Poole has been in a complete and epic shooting slump since Christmas break last year. Beilein broke him down and there are diminishing returns on having every game be “alright now tonight let’s get it going.” Feel like him and Coach Haynes struggled with that every night of the big ten season last year. I feel for the kid but in my opinion it has nothing to do with his skill level (very high) or athleticism (good enough for the league). Dude has deep-seeded confidence/mental issues with his jumper that are not going away. Hasn’t found a consistent stroke in over 10 months.
All Iggy needed to see was the Big Ten logos to get buckets.
Update on the Jordan Poole Experience.
In the same game he draws this praise:
He does this on a WIDE open jumper:
The Athletic has a feature up on Mo Wagner today. I won’t quote ad nauseum because it’s paid, but I will paraphrase:
Wagner excels, according to Wizards coaches, because he excels “at making intelligent reads quickly” on cuts and screens.
They also discuss his propensity to let a hip or elbow dangle on screens and get whistled for it (noting his extreme foul-rate) and he quips “Tyson Chandler taught me that it’s only illegal if you’re whistled for it.”
Also not that of his 84 shot attempts this year, all but one came either beyond the arc or in the paint.
Might need some time in the G
That reminds me a bit of the first NBA bucket Sean Higgins ever made. He banked in a baseline 3 off the top left corner.
Seems like he’s keeping his head up despite the struggles. I hope he can retain that confidence, I’m rooting for him.
You don’t plant potatoes one day and make potato salad the next!
Duncan becoming a high quality NBA rotation player is one of the coolest things to actually happen that I can remember rooting for.
At the 40 second mark you can see Coach B up in arms before Duncan has even released his shot!
My goodness I didn’t actually watch the video until your comment…that last one - what a heat check!!
The hands over head and walk-off is amazing.
Wish Duncan shoot like this in his very last collegiate game.
Duncan finishes with 9 threes, one short of the Heat record.
He hit his tenth 3 with 14 seconds left but was called off because of a shot clock violation.
In his post game interview he says he’s disappointed that he didn’t hit 10
is the record held by Glen Rice?
Mario Chalmers and Brian Shaw, would’ve been cool if it was Rice though!
Imagine you get a glimpse into the future 3 years ago and the one headline you read is …
Duncan Robinson goes 8 of 10 from 3 in a half for the Miami Heat against the Cavaliers coached by John Beilein.
