Is his defense passable?
I have a hard time telling by eye-balls, especially, as Dylan has noted ad nauseum, since the Heat play more zone than any team in the NBA, where itās harder to assign individual blame.
Iāve caught him on league pass a few times, and it seems like he capably executes his assignment, rotates well and is effective as a helper. He can deal with three-and D threes but struggles with guys that can put the ball on the floor. The Heat play him as a 4 mostly through and even though heās gotten bigger he can struggle against true fours who can beat him senseless.
Advanced stats suggest heās about neutral.
Unreal. Great for him
Poole 0/7 tonight. Now on a 5/30 stretch.
Seems to be having the same issues he had last year. Shows flashes of brilliance, but by and large has struggled with his shot.
I almost hit like, as in āI told you soā, but hesitated because I really do want to see him succeed. I donāt blame him for leaving. I believe he will get much better. I do wonder whether he would have stayed with Juwan as coach. Seems he fits better with Juwanās style than JBās.
Heās flirting with a FG percentage of 25%. Ouch.
It seems to give you great joy.
Nah, he gets greater joy out of the Iggy hot takes.
Well without the flashes of brilliance.
Itās early, but he has business in the NBA in any phase, but at least heās getting $10 mil for someoneās mistake.
I like the kid, but heās only there because the Warriors are hard-capped, canāt add a cent of payroll, and have nobody else to play.
On the bright side, GR III had 14 points and 6 boards. Heās not destined for stardom but heās having a nice bounce-back year from the '18-'19 season.
I think he gets better as he matures. Heās surrounded by great players and coaches and needs to hone his trade. Heās a great catch and shoot player but would rather focus on the step back. He should be able to find one or two things heās great at In his game.
Iāve seen some highlights of the flashes of brilliance where heās crossed guys over and hit jumpers. He also had 20 in his first NBA game. Itās just little flashes where you see what he could be if he ever put it together. However, obviously his shooting percentage is terrible and itās very possible (or maybe even likely) that he never actually puts it together.
Ouch. You make him sound like Nunez.
I think I pretty consistently defended his time here, and still would. But I think if you were to quantify it, heās probably the worst rotation player in the league at this point. A guy who was drafted for his shooting posting a 38% true shootingā¦its not good - his shot selection has already generated more than one article. Yes, heās a rookie, and Iām sure he wonāt continue to be quite this bad.
My concern for him is that this isnāt a well-regarded guy having perplexing struggles - heās a guy most analysts felt was a sub-NBA athlete who, if he worked, was going to be bailed out by skill level. Recall, that most thought his draft slot was a reach.
And yes - Glennās been fine. Hopefully he can stay healthy, which has generally been his biggest problem.
Not that heās a minus athlete. Heās not going to be amongst the most physically dynamic players at his postion, but heās got ideal physical attributes for the role. Anyways, heās a rookie asked to be a volume scorer because everyone else on the team is hurt. Time will tell if can become efficient, but I doubt the Warriors regret the pick. I did think that going to a team of winners with that kind of structure would do a lot for him since he is a player who needs to get past his bad habits and is hostile to that idea, and the injuries to his teammates are a setback there.
Iām not an expert, but I have seen more than one scoring report declare him a rather significant minus athletically.
Would like to see those reports. I donāt see this as a guy whoās a minus athletically. And I see a guy who we know can make lots of shots missing shots as an issue of consistency and confidence. The best team of the last decade just took him in the first round of the draft. Iām sure they didnāt anticipate starting him.
Poole is shooting 18% over his last nine games and 16% in his last five. Which is rough. That said, in his defense, it was unreasonable to see him as a key rotational piece immediately, let alone an important for a Warriors piece currently missing all three of their best guards. Him going through these struggles might actually be good for him to go through early in his career for a Warriors team that (this season) wonāt be trying to make the playoffs.
JMO, but its bad for him. He is the kind of player for home you need a backup to insert when heās not doing what the coach wants. Beilein said as much and I totally agree. I think last season would have been really different if in December and January he could have been benched into compliance. Heās only going to go longer without that now. More formative years spent not having to fear taking bad shots or zoning out on defense.
