Wagner with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 blocks today.
One of his best defensive performances as a pro as 3 or 4 of those blocks came against Andre Drummond.
He has been struggling with turnovers recently however. He was averaging 4.23 travels AND 4.23 illegal screens per 36 minutes before this game. He had none of those today!
Yeah right now Mo’s biggest challenge is the zebras - he’s averaging like four fouls in 14 minutes a game and he gets whistles for all sorts of non-foul infractions - 6.5 fouls and 6.5 turnovers per 36 right now.
Caris had another good game tonight.
Jordan Poole struggled tonight going 3/16. In typical JP fashion he was still hyping the crowd up at the end of the game after being fouled. He did end up with 16 points and 5 assists though!
He’s shooting 27% from the floor. Rough situation on that team - it’s hard to play NBA games without NBA teammates.
Check out the full game highlights to see Moe go behind the back and lay it in on Drummond.
Where are all the people predicting he would be out of the league in a year or two?
Probably the best thing that’s happened to his career is being traded away from “win now” Bron. It seems like he’s holding his own with the Wiz, not just scoring but doing other things on the floor as well.
This analysis of a couple of plays Mo made at Michigan by Jalen Rose–with Mitch looking on and giving commentary–is not new. But I had never seen it, found it instructive and very entertaining. Begging forgiveness if it’s been posted before:
“Yeah, but we won. It’s all good.”
The wild thing about Wagner’s season so far (and obviously 6 games is not a big enough sample) is that the team has played MUCH better defensively when he’s on the floor (they’re a bit better offensively but that’s more modest, and obviously adding a guy with a high usage who has a 75% true shooting NV will help). I think we can all agree that defense is not one of his better skills.
Admittedly, I did not watch Moe much last season in LA, but I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by his defense so far for the Wizards. His hands are super active deflecting passes and he has fought really hard to protect the rim against back-up bigs, despite his natural limitations. Small sample caveats apply, but I did not think defense would be a strength, or even a neutral component, of his game coming into the NBA.

That summer work has translated to playing time this season. Robinson entered Tuesday averaging 11.3 points while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 50 percent on threes in 22.3 minutes over the Heat’s first six games.
His offense was good last year, and I think he’d certainly be a part of the Lakers’ rotation if they didn’t need to move him for cap reasons. But yeah, his defense wasn’t good. Glad to see him improving in that regard.
The good news with Duncan is that he played well enough while Justise Winslow was out (he had fallen out of the rotation with Butler’s return), that he got over 10 minutes last night with the squad at full strength. Didn’t play well, but a good sign.
On the other side of the coin, DJ Wilson spent most of last year playing pretty well when he got a chance, but the team is so deep, he’s not in the rotation. He really needs a change of scenery.
Agree on both fronts, I think DJ will move, right now he’s an insurance policy. Maybe next year, lots of options for him. I think Duncan sticks in the NBA now, small sample but 50% from the 3 is worth money. I think he only has a partial guarantee until January but I think he gets the deal done.
Duncan is guaranteed through the year, Derrick Walton is partially guaranteed.
Yep, my bad.
Somebody actually picked up Duncan Robinson in my fantasy NBA league last night. I did a double take as it’s not a league with ridiculously deep rosters (my worst player is Jonathan Isaac, for reference). But the best part…the player he dropped was D’Angelo Russell - in a league comprised of Ohio dwellers. Yes, even the smallest victories over OSU are gratifying.
