You said Duncan has done nothing but excel while Mo has showed nothing. Mo played in 30 more NBA games and is 3 years younger. Last year Mo was on a team that for most of the season until it all fell apart, was filled with a roster of solid NBA players but was also dysfunctional.
Well he didnāt play while they had NBA players - his minutes came mostly in post-Lebron tank.
Iām not saying heās done. Iām saying he needs to show something this year or heāll fall into the sort of precarity we see from Stauskas.
Robinson has excelled - in lower tier competition. But this summer (small sample), heās been the better player.
I realize people donāt like it when we note that Michigan guys are struggling.
I donāt have anything against noting that Michigan guys are struggling. Canāt really talk about Michigan players in the NBA if you donāt want to acknowledge the struggle lol. I agree Mo has an uphill battle to stick in the NBA. I also thought him being a first round pick was a reach considering he was almost certainly going to be a really bad NBA defender.
The Heatās G League team is actually well coached and the players play as a team. Duncan noted in his OSP interview that he and Yante Maten had been discussing what sets they wanted to run for the last month. Mo just got to practice with his team a week ago. So I felt that your note about Duncanās situation being bad was wrong in that it is a big part in why heās playing so well and why Mo is hurt by it.
I will say Duncanās shooting numbers in the GLeague are insane.
Completely agreeā¦
I will say this
I was really skeptical at the end of last season that Robinsonās contract would get picked up this July - it seemed like mere competent base-covering by the Heat in case something weird happened and they needed him.
If I had to guess today Iād say heās on the opening night roster - maybe even the rotation - on a guaranteed full NBA deal.
I agree with all of those teams. I would also include the Pacers, Blazers, and even as far as the Heat if they get Chris Paul along with Jimmy Butler.
That would make it 14, but of course, itās stretching it.
And I would absolutely not be surprised if the Bucks win it all next year, I think they could legitimately take down whoever comes out in the west if they just play like the way they do in the regular season.
Iāve roamed around Heat message boards, and theyāve been saying that based on their own intuition and what theyāve heard, Duncan should absolutely be on the opening roster and will very likely be in the rotation. Iām not sure thereās too much of a risk there compared to what one might have thought when he graduated.
Moe on the other hand is in a tough spot. He had a horrendous summer league, and will be fighting to stay in the league I would think.
Mo played fine down the stretch of the season. Heāll be on the Wizards roster and almost certainly see more minutes than Duncan.
I agree, I think the heat have until July 15th to decide, after that the guarantee kicks in.
Duncan gets a $1M guarantee on July 15th.
Notesā¦
- Derrick Walton doesnāt play ā In addition to the Clippersā rostered players, undrafted free agent Derrick Walton didnāt suit up either. Thereās a chance that heās banged up a little, but it seems more likely that he got an offer from a team, and he didnāt want to risk an injury. It remains to be seen who that team is, but itās possible that itās the Clippers, if they werenāt happy with any of the veteran point guards available in free agency. He played well for much of Summer League, and is a steady enough option to get 10-12 minutes in a regular season game and not screw things up.
Now that would be awesome if DWALT lands here!
Iām not sure why this is so certain.
If I had to guess, Duncan would get more minutes than Moe this year. Itās a what have you done for me recently league, and Duncan has been incredibly impressive.
Doubt that was the reason, but Iād be happy to be wrong.
Dwalt couldnāt even manage to secure a 2 way last year.
Didnāt Walton said he didnāt want a 2 way and he regretted signing one the year before?
I could be wrong but I thought he turned it down for a tryout with the Bulls. He got cut and went to Europe, probably the same coinā¦hoping he sticks, great attitude, great kid!
I never said I thought Moe was going to fail of any sorts, I said you shouldnāt be so certain that heās going to get more playing time than Duncan. You cite that Moe had 20 this game, well Duncan had 26 today as well.
Neither of these totals really matter too much, but on the whole, Duncan has been much more impressive than Moe and will likely get played more.
Not just talking about summer league though. Iām including their play from last year as well on all levels, G-League and NBA. I think at this point, if you give an NBA exec/coach the option to play one or the other for the next game they would choose Robinson. On that basis I would personally bet on Robinson playing more.
On another note, while the Wizards are a bad team it bothered me that Wagner wasnāt even starting on their summer league team. It never seemed like he could get his rhythm going as a result.
Wagner literally was added late to the summer league roster. No surprise that he wasnāt a starter. I wouldnāt take too much out of that.

Robinson, in particular, seems likely to be retained beyond Mondayās key guarantee date but he had received no assurance of that as of Saturday evening.
If there were no financial issues in play, Robinson and Maten would be no-brainers to take to training camp, and Robinson still might be.
But Miami stands less than $1 million below its $138.9 million hard cap and would need to release a player to sign any free agent, including Udonis Haslem.
Robinson already has been guaranteed $250,000, but another $750,000 of his $1.4 million salary will be guaranteed if heās not waived by 11:59 pm Monday night. Because of his development this summer, it would be surprising if he doesnāt stick beyond Monday.
Robinson made another strong impression, shaking off a 1 for 7 start to close 9 for 21 from the field, with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Robinson entered averaging 15.3 points and shooting 44.9 percent in Las Vegas games, including 35.3 percent on three-pointers.
āWeāre proud of Duncan,ā Heat summer league coach Eric Glass said Saturday night. āHe got better on the defensive end for sure and his rebounding was much better. Weāve seen his offense. We know he can shoot.
āWe know heās learning to put the ball on the floor a little bit. All those things have evolved in his game. The two big areas were rebounding and defense, and those two areas have really improved.ā
Duncan update.
Udonis Haslem is still in the NBA? Wow. He must be like 37.
