Meant to bring this up early in the week but the baseball team was in the “last 4 in” on the baseball America bracketology site.
3 series left and a couple individual weekday games in between. Clutch win last night with a solo shot in the 10th and great pitching. Sweep the Terps!

Run-rule wins for both baseball and softball!
Was able to go last weekend for the games vs Washington, crazy to win back to bac B9 games when down multiple runs. They just scheduled a game at Kent State for next week, who has a similar RPI as UM, so that becomes a very big game. Our resume is thin, so really need to win these winnable series and games. Would really help to get Tate Carey back as a top 3 starter. Go Blue!!
Softball completes the sweep of the Spartans, with a 3-1 win. Gabby Ellis pitched a 1-hitter.
Meanwhile, the baseball team is up 2-0 in the 3rd inning.

RPI is now at 42, started the week at 50. I think with our thin resume, racking up wins against lower level teams will always leave us pretty close to the cut line. That said, a sweep was huge. Junesong Park was the hero on Friday and again today (after being the hero last weekend). Amazing, since he’s played very little, up until recently. We were down 7-5 with 2 out and 1 on in T9, and get a single, a walk after fouling off two 2-strike pitches, and then a Park double to go from down 7-6 to up 8-7. Then in B9, Maryland strands 2 baserunners. Whew. We are far from a great team, but to our credit, we are on a strong run by winning close games. Go Blue!

Softball will face OSU in the BTT at 1:30pm on Wednesday. The host site is Maryland and the game will be on BTN.

Michigan softball takes on #2 Nebraska shortly.
I’m guessing Jordy Frahm (nee Bahl) is pitching for the Cornhuskers. She was the ace on Oklahoma’s 2023 Championship team before transferring back home. She’s dealt with injuries since then (missing almost all of 2024) but was 16-4 pitching this year and also hit over .400 with 19 HR.
During the game yesterday the BTN broadcast team talked about Michigan as a bubble team. I’m not sure how much blowing out the higher-seeded OSU squad (it was an 8/9 game) moved the needle but if they can find a way to get the upset today, I’d think that would put them in.

Michigan fought hard but didn’t pay off some situations with 2 runners on base and no outs.
