Isaiah Todd decommits from Michigan, will pursue pro opportunities

Nice to see traffic so heavy that emergency measures need to be taken!!!

I think both deserved more playing time this past season, but that’s the coach’s decision to make. The substitution patterns might or might not have had anything to do with their decisions to look elsewhere.

Well, it is disingenuous to suggest those are the only two changes. For instance, you are replacing Teske with Dickinson and Davis, not just Davis. And there is general hope for improvement from a number of guys on the roster.

But yes, I am expecting a significant jump for Wagner. I am factoring in a full season of Wagner and I expect him to play like a first round draft pick.

Do you really think they were the 9th best team though? Also we aren’t the only team taking major hits. Purdue, mich st, Minnesota, penn st, Indiana, Ohio st ect all taking mAjor hits.

I just think that people are underplaying the impact of having a Sr PG who knew how to run a team and a big man, despite his ups and downs, who was a great defender.

Michigan is going to really struggle to defend next year.

8th or 9th, yeah, I do. We weren’t a great team this year…

Beilein had only one true decommitment (Battle). Currie was the other but that seemed more of a push out once Yakich came in.

Teske was a “great defender” this past year?

That’s assuming a lot about how we operate without Zavier. But

Interesting. We were a 6-7 seed ( maybe higher) In the country but the 9th best team In Our conference.

I agree that defense is a BIG worry for next year.

However, I don’t think Teske or X were great defenders this past season.

Recruiting Christopher and Todd likely cost us DDJ and Colin Castleton.

I would rather have those 2 Beilein recruited juniors than the 2 JH recruited one and dones.

I wish these one and dones could just go directly to the NBA out of HS. Then I would never have to watch them or even know who they are because I have no interest in the NBA.

This is my major worry with smith and next years roster. In many ways our offense could improve if livers stays. We certainly will be much better from deep.

Agree.

We don’t have a proven PG.

We don’t have one SG on the entire roster (Nunez doesn’t count).

Our 3 & 4 spots are full, but with really good players, not elite.

Our 5 spot will be average at best.

Losing Zavier is going to suck and the defense probably won’t be as good. But he also had limitations offensively. They still have great defenders in Brooks, Wagner, and Livers…If 3 of your starting 5 are good defenders, then the floor for how good they will be on that end is higher than you think

We weren’t really the 9th best team in the conference. We had the 9th best record in the conference though.

We were a top 4 team in the conference.

I know Penny had a couple (and important) months head start, but I’m just thinking about Memphis’s #1 class overall. I don’t mean to spit on #1 in the B1G, but I think a lot of us were looking at the changing of the guard from Beilein to Howard as one in which we’d get an inexperienced x’s and o’s coach (with a hopefully mountainous ceiling) but we’d weather that inexperience with significantly improved recruiting. And I bought in to Todd being the Juwan of his class, he who would break the dam and bring in all kinds of studs. Do we think great recruiting can happen next year with more time? If not, or if we focus more on great program players, do we think Juwan is skilled enough to keep the program at the height Beilein brought it?

Again, not trying to naysay, and I hate the pessimism so typical of this board as soon as the other team scores a bucket, but this seems to me like a more reasonable time for a bit of panic.

Why did DDJ deserve more time? He is a small shooting guard and super streaky. He was rightly behind X and Brooks.

We’re still a really good team (top 20-25) if Livers stays. We’d still have what would be an above average Beilein recruiting class.
