Isaiah Todd decommits from Michigan, will pursue pro opportunities

You may not want to hear my rational take on next year cause it’s not too rosy

I’ll say this though, Todd’s commitment lead the way for Hunter and Williams. When you look at it in that light, it might still have been worth it for UM.

Todd leaving changed the ceiling a bit. But I actually am kinda excited about Terrance Williams getting a shot now. Would still like some small ball with him and Johns

You can’t say we don’t have a proven PG then also say we don’t have a SG. Eli Brooks fits into one of those bins. My money is on him as our SG.

Well the days not getting any better is it. Will Juwan be carrying 2 open scholarships now. It seems like Beilein carried over 1 or 2 open ships each year.

I want to hear it!

Can’t we all just go back to Thanksgiving when nobody had Coronavirus and Teske was dunking all over Gonzaga?

If Greg Brown sees this opening I hope he grabs it. I imagine the Sparty and OSU fans are roaring with laughter about now.

Penny’s #1 class didn’t even wield a team that was on track to make the NCAA tournament last season. They lost Wiseman early on, lost another super frosh to a season ending injury midway through the year, and are expected to lose their best overall freshman to the draft this year. They probably won’t be projected to make the NCAA tournament next season either if they miss out on Jalen Green and Greg Brown.

Sometimes its good not to be dependent on your team being carried by such players.

I feel very confident in saying I don’t think Michigan has much of a chance to win the Big Ten. Someone explain how this becomes a top 20 offense? Or a top 40 defense? Our roster as it stands screams 9-12 seed

I like many of the guys individually, just don’t think it melds together into anything besides ‘meh’. To me if Michigan is gonna be really good Wagner has to develop into the B1G player of the year. I think he’ll be great, but just can’t assume that level. Only 3 guys we can assume are above average defensively at this level. And 2 of them may have to play out of position where they are not above average defensively just so we can get our best guys on the floor.

Shutter the program.

Hold that thought. I don’t think everyone agrees with you. I know I don’t. Juwan has been head coach 1 season - without a post-season. Give him time. All the greats struggle a bit at first. I definitely would not write off Juwan’s ability to develop talent. That’s BS.

Lot of knee jerk, emotional, doom and gloomers on the board today. I get being bummed we lost out on these guys and I agree that the ceiling changes, but some of these comments are like we had a natty in hand because these two teenagers were coming to play for our team for a season. I don’t mean to say they wouldn’t improve our chances but can we stop talking about it like we lost out on a sure thing?

I’ve seen this asked multiple times about Jace going back on scholarship (and obviously a valid question). I guess my question for those familiar with the regs is whether accepting the scholarship for 20-21 would pose an obstacle to moving him back to walk-on status in a subsequent season if a roster crunch renders it attractive/necessary. In other words, does that whole B1G 4-year scholarship guarantee thing apply…or is it irrelevant as he could theoretically relinquish the right and go to walk-on status of his own free volition?

That’s the point I was making. I didn’t agree with him at all that we were the 9th best team. 6th at worst imo , arguably third. Most likely fourth or fifth.

If I was betting on the NCAA though or the big ten tourney Michigan st would have been the only team I would have picked to go farther or been more confident in to win it all. Possibly Ohio st. I would have bet Ohio st and Michigan evenly, with carton I’m taking Ohio st.

Defensively, Simpson’s replacements will be a large dose of Smith and Jackson, while Teske’s replacement will be a combination of Johns and Dickinson. These are both significant downgrades on paper, but you have to take into consideration that our supposed defensive anchors Simpson and Teske both were horrible this year relative to our defensive expectations of them, and yet we finished #28 in KenPom on that end of the floor. As a result, I think you’re overestimating how much we drop off from last year defensively, especially since everyone else should be improved. With merely the same guys back, I think we’ll still be in the top 40.

Offensively, I think losing Teske could be a positive given that we’ll see less inefficient post touches, and perhaps better offensive rebounding. Johns and Dickinson as replacements should be a positive. I can’t defend losing Simpson without a replacement like JC. That’s gonna hurt like a *****. Our best bet is for a replacement by committee in the form of Brooks, Zeb, and Smith. I just don’t know how we’ll be able to create the many open looks we had last year without X. A positive, however, should be that we are now almost definitively a better shooting team, and so that even given worse looks from three, we could convert around the same, or a higher percentage of them.

I’ve been thinking this too, but I don’t think we can think this way. Name one junior/senior college player that hasn’t had a recruit brought in under him to play the same position? It can’t be done.

Maybe I’m just delusional but if Livers comes back I think is probably still the second most talented roster in the conference behind State.

Iowa without Garza doesn’t scare me even with Bohanon coming back. Wisconsin will he picked ahead of us in the preseason polls but are they really more talented? T-Will and Zeb will have to play more minutes as freshmen than planned but on paper they’ll be two of the better freshmen in the conference.
