many orthopods are skeptical of hip resurfacing

I’d love to see Livers get hired by BTN.

I hope the play-by-play person calls dagger 3s anchor babies

What a shame for Livers. So many what ifs. If it’s hard for me to be at peace with what happened his senior year, imagine how hard it must be for him.

“would have been able to”? There was nothing stopping him!

Yup… team could’ve used him badly

Not quite in line with this thread, but re: almost former Michigan players NOT in NBA…

I watched Terrence Shannon Jr play in Detroit today for the Iowa Wolves. His unique skill set carries over well to the G league. He is just as difficult to keep in front of you as he was in college. No idea whether that can carry through to the NBA but he is already a very good G leaguer.

Yep, I’ve had this surgery and it is an excellent alternative to a full hip replacement. My understanding is that you can have a full replacement re-done only once, so the resurfacing pushes back the timeline for eventual full replacement (and potential re-do). Avoiding a full replacement now will allow Livers lots of time (hopefully decades) before requiring a full replacement.

I am in no way comparing myself to a professional athlete in his 20s, but my surgeon strongly advised against running up and down a basketball court after having my hip resurfaced. IIRC, Isaiah Thomas and Andy Murray are two pros who returned to their sports after having resurfacing surgeries.

I had my hip done at U of M. I raised the option of hip resurfacing, but none of the “hip” surgeons would do hip surfacing. There were higher incidents of breaking, particularly with women. As I recall, hip resurfacing–the “Birmingham method”-- was first designed and popular in England. That was 10 years ago–there may have been improvements since then.

“the Birmingham method” sounds like a euphemistic term for either a particularly gruesome form of amputation used in WWI or maybe some form of early psychotherapy that involves copious amounts of LSD and very relaxed professional boundaries with patients

Man if bad vibes could fracture hips, @ChathaM1 would be in trouble

Those vibes already claimed one victim’s hips (AKA mine)
