Former Michigan Players NOT in NBA

Saben Lee played 50 games last year, 16 mpg, shot 47% from the floor and 35% from 3, and had three times as many assists as steals. There is literally no indication he cannot be a backup PG in the NBA right now, because he did it last year, and played well (his defensive BPM was even positive).

The fact he isn’t on the roster while Killian Hayes and Corey Joseph - whose numbers are FAR below those I listed above, is a joke. I mean, I get that his jumper is slow, but the alternative is Killian f-ing Hayes.

Saben Lee has 17 pts, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block in 16 minutes against the Nets. Looks like the G League confidence is starting to translate.

Hah, similar experience in tennis. I could hang with guys in practice and win a few games in a set when we played doubles. But Mano a Mano? Forget it. Four outta six points is only one above a split but it felt (and was) absolutely impossible.

Xavier Simpson** is at 5 points and 4 assists per game in 20 minutes. He’s shooting 37.5% (on low volume) from 3!

DJ WIlson is putting up roughly a 12/10, but the 22% on 3 3-point attempts a game isn’t so hot, and leading to 45% from the floor.

Jon Teske is at a 7/7 in 24 minutes per game. Under a block per game, and his hot start with assists is steadily coming to earth.

Charles Matthews is having a hard time getting on the floor, down to 9 minutes per game. He’s shooting well (57%) in that time, having excised 3’s from his game.

My confusion as to what Nik Stauskas is accomplishing here continues. He clearly has had a rough few games, with his season shooting totals falling to 43% from the floor and 34% from 3. He’s at 18 ppg, but mediocre shooting in the G League isn’t going to entice suitors.

Derrick Walton Jr. is arguably the most successful Michigan alum in the G League - 13 points, 7 assists, 4 boards, and over 40% shooting from 3.

Chaundee Brown has not played - because he is not playing on the Los Angeles Lakers rather than the South Bay Lakers.

Isaiah Livers, like Brown, is getting DNP’s on the Pistons bench. He’s only played 2 G League games.

Jordan Morgan hasn’t played yet for Athens.

Rahk’s stats are pretty unchanged from last update (or they haven’t been updated, idk). Legia is 8-5 in the Polish League.

Injuries might force the Pistons to play Livers some.

I had read some burbling he’s having some foot issues again?

Same. I played pickup ball with a bunch of average joes and some ex-college ball players with an occasional oversea pros. The level of play is startling. D3/NAIA players are good, but D1 is on a whole different level. It’s quite an eye opener seeing up close. Of course, I’ve played with a bunch of D1 caliber players growing up so the normal for me has been slightly skewed as a result.

Stauskas is on ESPN right now playing against G-League Ignite. He has 18 pts, 4 asts through 3 quarters and has been playing some PG.

Lance Stephenson is back in the league! COVID is turning this into a retro trip of mediocre players and busts.

And I’m here for it!

I’d like to be happy for Nik for at least a couple of minutes.

Livers and Walton up 32-26 over X and DJ Wilson at the end of the first. (On ESPNU)

Simpson with the pesky defense forcing Walton into a few turnovers and hitting DJ for an alley oop to go up at the break.

Looks familiar…

Ah, the good old Isaiah Livers on-ball rep… back his man down for like 15 minutes and then take a fade-away jumper

We also got a nice Zavier Simpson hook that the announcing crew clearly didn’t know was part of his arsenal.

Walton misses an Oregon-like step back over DJ that would have ended it. Simpson/DJ make some plays to pull out a two point win after a putback at the buzzer goes in and out.

Simpson and DJ with a chance to win $100,000 in the Finals.
