Hauser has struggled a bit tonight
Agreed. The difference in this game is Loyerâs 20 points, 6 of which are on 3âs and 2 were FTs on a foul 30 feet from the basket. Last year Loyer put up 13 against EMU on 3/4 from 3 and 4/4 from the line, so same performance in more playing time with no Cassius. Only 2 assists as well so itâs not like heâs some great playmaker.
4 points on 2/3 shooting from Henry and Hauser so far. Neither have hit a 3 and Hauser has 5 turnovers so far, granted Henry leads the team with 5 assists.
Watts has 3 assists and 0 turnovers, but 0 points and is coming off the bench.
Langford has 10 points but on 2/6 shooting from deep and 1 REB, AST and TO.
None of the other MSU big men have stood out at all and Gabe Brown has hit a couple 3âs which is what he does. The obvious caveat is MSU is playing the EMU zone which is a weird matchup, but Langford and Loyer are the only players right now you can say are even coming close to the high end of their projections in game 1.
18 assists on 19 FG for MSU. incredible ball movement year in and year out.
To be fair thatâs also a product of playing a zone. No dribble penetration or real iso possessions means almost every bucket will be assisted unless itâs a putback.
I know but every other year I tell myself âthis is where MSUâs AST rate finally falls off a cliffâ and it literally never happens.
Might have to do with Amazon AWS outages today. Not sure.
The Score app has been messed up all day too
Wisconsin looksâŚfine. Reuvers has 18 and 5 blocks. Potter just does not feel like an all-league guy to me and their backcourt doesnât scare me at all. John Carlson is going to be the next Wisconsin big we canât stand. They were up 23 at half and Eastern Illinois cut it to 12 with around 8 minutes left. Badgers pulled away after that (before garbage time, it ended up only a 10 point win).
I think thereâs a pretty decent gap between Illinois and Iowa/Wisconsin based on what I saw today.
Eastern Illinois is 150-200 spots higher in KenPom than the teams Iowa/Illinois played today, FWIW.
I believe KenPom has them right around Bowling Green range, slightly worse. I was honestly more impressed with Michigan today. That second half was not pretty - they just gave up 47 points in a half to a team that had the 230th ranked offense last year.
Wisconsin isnât really built to blow people out or look pretty. They are built to grind you to a fine powder in the most tedious way possible. They are built to win a bunch of games but maybe not ever be favored against another top team. If they hit threesâŚhard to beat.
Or Hoggard will start there when heâs healthy.
I just donât see Watts as a PG.
Adam Miller is TOUGH
Dylan talked about how important it will be for the Big Ten to grab a couple of wins vs other high majors given how few there are to go around. Purdue has been outplayed vs Clemson, now down 15 with 2 minutes left. Missing Hunter, but still not a great showing.
Illinois only up one at the half against Ohio at home. If Justin Turner doesnât win MAC player of the year itâll be Jason Preston from Ohio. He was awesome last year (16.8/7.4/6.4 on 52/41/73 shooting splits) and he already has 20/4/2 in one half
appears the crowning of Illinois as the class of the big ten probably should have waited til they played a top 300 team
Illinois on the ropes!!! Preston is hooooping for Ohio. DJ Cooper flashbacks. Iâm sweating.
Between Turner and Preston, looks like the MAC has some fun players this year. Ohio canât do anything with Cockburn, though.
Iâm living vicariously through the big Dutchman Vander Plus on Ohio
