Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Is there another coach out there who’s been so lionized while proving so utterly graceless? My word.

I guess I didn’t watch closely enough but I don’t recall Garza sitting in the lane “for hours,” though maybe that’s the homer in me not seeing what I don’t want to see. Either way, Izzo once again proves he’s basically a toddler when it comes to handling adversity, which is apt since he’s the height of one.

It’s crazy how Izzo didn’t complain about Garza sitting in the lane for hours when he had Tillman on his roster. I’m sure their struggles to stop him last night were mostly officiating based, there’s no way it had anything to do with the personnel.

More importantly, there’s ZERO chance it had anything to do with coaching.

Well in Izzo’s defense. He did blame himself for playing Langford too many minutes. They are simply running out of bodies; in effect, forcing Tom into coaching blunders

Maybe Tom did realize that Gabe Brown hasn’t been with the team for the past week!

I don’t think dumping Miller is the wisest of decisions at this time. They have struggled at times but are still a relatively young team. Everybody is eligible to return but they only have 1 senior on the roster (Brunk is another senior but hasn’t played and they miss him). They probably lose Davis but I am still not sold on him going pro is the best decision for himself. I have seen some mock drafts and he hasn’t been listed close to the 1st round. They would owe him a full buyout after this year.

His contact would still require a 100% buyout after this year, the buyout is 0 after next. There is no harm in sticking with a coach who has done a lot at a young age and stands to return most of his roster.

I agree that IU will likely give Miller another year but we’re also getting further and further removed from his time at Dayton. At some point you have to evaluate him solely on what he’s done at Indiana, and that isn’t much (yes, they likely get a bid last season but one of the double-digit variety).

If they’re in a similar situation next season around this time, I think cutting bait pretty much has to be the decision.

Who is Izzo referring to when he says he talked with the best coach in the country?? Coach K I guess

He does it every morning when he looks in the mirror while brushing his teeth

That’s weird. Normally there’d be more of a sliding scale.

After March 2022 Archie’s buyout drops from 100% of his remaining salary to 50%. That’s still a good reason to keep him for one more season, but I have a hard time seeing one good season being enough to keep Indiana happy. It had better be final four good.

This must be @buckets12’s burner account.

Bahahaha. Maybe I’m turning into Rothstein…I do want to trademark my own Rothstein-ism for when MSU misses the tournament:

Patrick Mccaffery a double digit scorer? The one with a 48% TS%?

Yeah I was following along with Murray and Nunge, but he didn’t need to throw McCaffery in there too. Let’s not go overboard here

Hey guys, remember MSU’s 23* consecutive NCAA tournaments streak?

Hey Rocket Watts has been at 9 PPG these past two years with a 48% TS% last year and 42% this year. So technically it’s possible

I think it might actually be over. Previous MSU teams on the brink would always win games like last night’s to save their season. Iowa tried its best to give it away but Sparty just wouldn’t take it.

Good grief, Rothstein. Patrick McCaffery had a nice game and made some solid contributions against a bad team. Let’s just appreciate it for what it was and not make wide, sweeping extrapolations.

Then again, you are Jon Rothstein, so by all means mash those iPhone keys.
