Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

That he’s viewed as roughly a top-100 prospect I’d say.

Not sure when the voting happened. Could have been after Livers withdrew, I don’t see anyone else who withdrew on the list.

MSU and Illinois are going to be interesting. Both have two guys on the list and conventional wisdom has been that one or both for each school were returning. If either school loses both guys to the NBA that would certainly reset their depth charts and thus expectations.

Someone there (a mod) reporting it? Or fans collectively losing their mind?

Edit, nvm:

Cockburn returned to Champaign in late May and he took part in voluntary workouts with his teammates for a few weeks. However, the 2020 Big Ten Freshman of the Year returned to New York earlier this month.

Throughout the offseason, the expectation has been that the big fella will be back. The latest development has flipped that script.

“Nothing in life is worthwhile, unless you take risks,” Cockburn posted on his SnapChat on Sunday.

I don’t see an upside there if Cockburn were to come back. His NBA skill isn’t really one that can be refined (his size). Unless he’s going to develop a jumper, might as well start collecting a paycheck now.

Or Ayo comes back and Adam Miller gets released and comes to Michigan

IOWA MEN’S BASKETBALL PAUSES WORKOUTS

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa Athletics Department announced today that the men’s basketball team has paused workouts for 14 days after two student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, July 27.

Following the positive test result, protocol established by UI Athletics and medical staff, including contact tracing procedures, is being followed to ensure the safety of all UI Athletics student-athletes and staff. This mandatory protocol also includes isolation for the individuals who test positive, and quarantine for those individuals who might have been exposed to someone with the virus.

Wonder if this helps push Garza out the door.

Mostly MSU stuff in this week’s pod but talked NBA Draft a bit on the back half.

Where is Garza going to go where Covid is not an omnipresent issue, short of Europe?

NBA is muuuuch more likely to have a season than NCAA. I know Garza isn’t a guarantee to be drafted, but I’d think he at least will get a two way deal. Better to play basketball and make money than to be unpaid and not playing basketball.

I’m honestly not sure - they can’t bubble for a whole season (at least I think it’s unlikely the players would) and we’re already seeing the perils of cross-country travel with baseball. In December, when the NBA new season starts, tbis will almost certainly still be out there.

NBA and the players union are already talking about playing next season in a bubble. I’d say it’s likely that there’s a 20-21 NBA season. Can’t say the same about college hoops.
