2016 Point Guard Recruiting (Xavier Simpson)

When Huerter visits, we basically have to give him an offer. One week later, Cassius visits. What is scary is that Huerter may be put in the same situation as Battle was. There is one spot at Michigan for that position and he may want to secure it. Yes, I know Huerter is trending Villanova, but who knows, we may put in a situation where Cassius is the one we want but we may not get him because of how officials line up. Things obviously can go differently, but right now it's not optimal for us. Hopefully things work out.

I have a feeling if they offer Huerter on his visit, it’d be with conditions re: Winston.
I can’t imagine they’d go that far and give up unless they knew they weren’t getting Winston. Especially since they’d still have time to go after other PG options.

Michigan is taking two more for '16

Huerter is not being recruited as a PG. he’s being recruited as a SG/combo. So even if he pledges in the visit (which he won’t), we are still taking Cassius.

Michigan is taking another wing (Bridges/Coffey/Heuerter) and a PG.

Are you just assuming Zak will go pro or that we will see a transfer from one of the frontcourt guys?

Davis has to go the prep route at this point for us to take one commitment.

I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t just take both Huerter and Winston. Huerter can easily play the 2 spot. That would mean no Bridges, but I don’t think he is coming to Michigan in any event so I would defintely take the bird in the hand approach.

Based on everything being reported on various sites. Something has changed since Battle/Langford debacle

What?

Who knows. Definite change in recruiting strategy for '16. Did it come from getting burned by Battle/Langford? Did knowledge of attrition come to their attention? Idk.

They are actively recruiting Huerter, Bridges and a couple other wings in '16 along with a PG (Winston).

This has seemed pretty clear to me. At the very least it was a “lesson learned” by the staff to continue recruiting. Either that, or there is more confidence in some upcoming attrition. I’m not sure which, but it seems we may still get one wing and one PG in 2016.

And the hits keep coming . . . Winston now not sure he’s going to visit?

Te’Jon Lucas come on down! Damn good player IMO.

Commits to Sparty this weekend on his visit?

Wow. Recruiting is a mess right now. For whatever reason we went to an NC and recruiting took a nose dive. I don’t get it.

I had heard he just moved his visit date. Not so much “uncertain.” That said, it’s getting late enough you have to consider taking another option instead of whiffing hard on all your options.

Sort of looks like he’s already silently committed. MSU has had so much positive momentum, and for us it has been the opposite.

I would love to “pull the rug out from under” those Sparty’s re: Winston, but it doesn’t look good. Lot of “know it alls” expecting him to commit this upcoming weekend. Does Jizzo ever lose a recruit to us that he really wants? Depressing if true.

How in the world would we not even get a visit after everything with Winston? Even if he doesn’t pick Michigan, how could things possibly change that drastically?

What we’ve seen in the past from Michigan is that moving visits is a huge red flag with the Michigan staff (see Trevon Bluiett).

Think about a situation where Michigan was working on setting up an official visit setup with Player B the weekend after Player A was originally scheduled to take his visit. If Player A wants to move his visit to the same weekend as Player B, do you cancel Player B’s visit and risk essentially going all in on Player A?

Maybe but either way this is not a good sign for our chances. It’s amazing how many of our top targets we have been striking out on over the last three years.

Not trying to sell it as a good thing about Michigan’s chances with Winston.

However, waiting too long to make a move on Te’Jon Lucas, Bryce Aiken or Mike Bibby Jr. and ending up empty handed would be a worst case scenario.

Does anyone really believe Winston is coming here? Time to go hard after Lucas. If we can’t beat out OD, USC, and Memphis, than lets just acknowledge we’re settling for under the radar kids who the higher majors really don’t want. We’ve went after some very high profile kids with both barrels the past two years and haven’t gotten any of them. It is what it is, JB has tried his ass off, he just doesn’t resonate with the blue chip kids. It isn’t for a lack of trying on his part though.
