Damn.

Q was going to go where he was wanted most and it was no secret that Cassius Winston is the guy that Michigan wanted most.

Xavier is a good fit, think he’ll be really good there.

I’d venture a guess that Te’Jon Lucas is the backup target at the PG spot (and he was before Goodin committed to Xavier too).

Te’Jon Lucas setting visits…
Purdue (official) August 28th, Old Dominion (official) Sept. 11, USC (official) Sept. 18, Illinois (unofficial) August 7

Cassius took his first OV this weekend.

Important weekend for #Stanford men's hoops, which is hosting the nation's No. 28 player, Cassius Winston (@cassiuswinston), on an official.

Maybe Johnny used this opportunity to give his input on Aubrey’s future PG!

Dylan, at this point, what do you think Michigan’s chances of landing a commitment from Winston are?

Sam Webb maintains we have an excellent shot, though my person policy towards highly rated recruits now is that I expect us to lose until the player actually enrolls at Michigan and then I can be pleasantly surprised.

We do. But the Winstons have done a great job of managing the process. So we wait.

Cassius said tonight on Instagram he wants to choose in about a month (right after officials).

That’s good.

It is good. If we don’t get him, it gives us time to move to a few pretty good plan Bs like Lucas.

In the month of September makes me feel slightly better about our chances in conjunction with the last official visit. Lets hope they keep showing Cassius how he would fit into the system and he likes what he hears.

Sam should stick to football. He hasn’t been right about anything basketball related in 2 or 3 years.

He didn’t say it was a lock. He said that we have a great shot. And he’s not alone on that.

People seem to like that we are the last visit, and I’d agree that it typically gives you a chance at the “last word”, but consider the fact that the weekend prior, Cassius and Miles Bridges together will be in E.Lansing (together!) watching what is one of the biggest home night games in recent memory and a crowd who will more clearly identify them and chant their collective names than those in AA would… tough act to follow

Certainly seems to be trending well…usually when a team seems to be pulling ahead in combination with a recruit setting a timeline, that is a good sign for that team. Obviously, nothing’s official until it happens, but that’s an encouraging fact pattern. Fingers crossed.

Sam said it was his “opinion” that we have a great shot. He also said we may have a SLIGHT edge, in his “opinion”. I personally think Sam is the most knowledgeable one out there. I would put his “opinion” above all others. I hope he’s right this time. I do know this, basketball recruiting is a crapshoot, it is certainly NOT a science. I also know that Coach B will not say or do what many other coaches say and do to get recruits. I love his integrity, and I love his ability to develop players and coach the game of basketball. Having seen practices conducted by both Coach Beilein and Coach Izzo, there is no doubt who I would rather have my son play for if he were a Division 1 recruit, and that’s NOT a knock on Coach Izzo. His style is just different than Coach B’s. That and the tremendous integrity and honesty of Coach B and the high academic standards he sets for his players, as well as the opportunity for a Michigan education would definitely swing the pendulum in favor of the Wolverines. It remains to be seen what the Winstons will do, but the opportunities for him at Michigan are enormous.

Bridges is taking his official to Michigan in October, IIRC.

If things don’t go our way with Winston, it’s a big break if he sticks with his decision timeline. I’m a big fan of Huerter and Lucas and would be very happy with either.

When Huerter visits, we basically have to give him an offer. One week later, Cassius visits. What is scary is that Huerter may be put in the same situation as Battle was. There is one spot at Michigan for that position and he may want to secure it. Yes, I know Huerter is trending Villanova, but who knows, we may put in a situation where Cassius is the one we want but we may not get him because of how officials line up. Things obviously can go differently, but right now it’s not optimal for us. Hopefully things work out.

Saying Sam should stick to football and his opinion on basketball is worthless is definitely off base. He is not perfect, but who is, it’s recruiting. He has more knowledge than anyone on this board and in the country aside from the actual recruits, family, and coaching staff. I will trust every careful word he says his “guts” is rather than anything else. Yes, we have a slight edge on Cassisus for now, but this can change in a few hours.
