Nick Ward (6'8" 2016 C) just committed to MSU. Rivals had him as the 47th ranked player overall. In an interview tonight he said he will work on getting Cassius Winston to MSU
Izzo is killing it on the recruiting trail right now.
Ward and Swanigan are gonna be a nightmare, shorter but tough in the post. Oh and don’t forget Davis. Yep, Izzo is crushing it.
Yes, in 2018, after Izzo wastes a few years of their careers breaking them down and building them back up, they’ll be a force.
New film on Quentin Goodin from Adidas Gauntlet. How can anybody watch this film and not immediately think of Darius Morris on steroids…meaning more atheltic, better shot. Goodin’s jumpshot looks noticeably better, and his passing looks VERY similar to DMo in the halfcourt. Really a fan of Goodin, he is ahead of Winston on my PG board, but I would love to have either.
Aiken is much more catch and shoot type player. Doesn’t really have a good handle, not bad, but not great by any means. Doesn’t really possess great court vision either…and he’s small. He is dead last on my PG board, would much rather have Goodin, Brown, Winston.
Curious to hear the opinions of others, what is the pecking order for PGs in 16 for you guys? For me, its Goodin, and then I’m torn between Brown/Winston. Winston is the pure PG we need, but Brown has the ability to play 2 positions and he’s just so damn good defensively and rebounding. Think Brown has more upside than just about any recruit left on our board other than Langford.
I’m with you MattD. I like Goodin and his length and athletic ability. Then it’s a toss up with Brown/Winston. I’d probably go Winston because he is a truer PG and I don’t want to lose him to State. Aiken would be down the list. I’d rather take a Huerter and have him and Rahk run the 1/2 over Aiken.
Man Corey Sanders is putting on a show in the Ball is Life All American game on CBS…athletically the kids is just on another level…I will follow him at Rutgers for entertainment value.
(OK, actually Dennis Smith, but since you meant guys we are actually recruiting…)
Probably like Brown more than Winston. Brown appears to be stronger, more athletic and better through contact. As you say, more upside. Not a huge fan of Winston’s game, frankly. In the minority here, but I just question whether his game will translate as he is rather slow and earthbound. Knock down shooter. But, In terms of recent in-state guards, he’s definitely at a lower rung as an athlete and handler than Walton, Appling, or McCallum. Could (and probably will) do worse, but I have pretty high standards for a U-M PG… especially because I have learned to accept our limitations in getting top-flight bigs. And I think in 2016 we should be aiming for someone with a higher ceiling.
Like all three, but if I had to go by order, it would be Goodin, Brown and Winston. Really like Brown’s game, and as other’s have said, he’s very athletic and versatile.
I’ll tell you what, a lot of coaches must be watching Corey Sanders tonight thinking they should’ve offered. He just absolutely broke Dejounte Murray’s ankles, locked up Isiah Briscoe and stole the ball from him…and proceeded to break someone else’s ankles en route to a layup. Kid can play
Interesting that Briscoe and Bacon are both playing in their third all star game. You are only suppose to play in two. McDonald’s, Jordan, and now Ball is Life. The Hoop Summit doesn’t count because it’s considered an international competition representing the US.
It’s a clear violation. I wonder why they would put their eligibility in jeopardy.
In an all american game, there is literally no player on the court that can stay in front of Sanders. His combination of ball handling, quickness, and strength is very impressive.
Watching Corey Sanders single handedly win this game on both ends of the court really makes me wonder why the staff didn’t seriously pursue…what could’ve been
Goodin is my number one mainly because it would be one position where we would usually have a mismatch physically in our favo. The mismatch will lead to open opportunities for guys like Dawkins, Robinson, etc. In Beilien’s tenure, we’ve really only had two players who gave us those physical mismatches. Darius Morris at the 1 and Mitch McGary although McGary’s was short lived.
Seems like Goodin’s recruitment is wide open if we make a push. Florida was the leader and just lost Donovan. Although the common thought is if Louisville decides to push hard for him that they can get him whenever they want which could make it all moot. Not sure what brown’s recruitment is like. He’s got a cousin at UCONN who is a 5 star PG, but if he really wants to play PG, he may want to go elsewhere. I know Providence has been involved. IU is as well although IU offers about 50 players a year so who knows how serious the interest level is. Texas seems to be showing some interest with Shaka now too.
