Predictions for tonight?

Let’s hear 'em. I’ll go with Nik & McGary sticking together to the Hornets (9 & 24) & GRIII to the Thunder at 29.

For what it’s worth, I think most of us here would take Stauskas over Smart if that’s the Kings’ decision at 8. Of course, they’re the Kings and will likely take Smart.

What does it mean that the Jazz drafted Exum? Was it thought that they may have picked another pg? Will he play 2 guard or is he going to compete directly with trey?

They can be on the floor at the same time as Exum gets stronger. He’s what, 6’5", 6’6"? So he could guard the opposing 2 guard. Though Exum might not be ready at this point. But if both develop, they can still play together.

All depends on Exum’s outside shot, if he can’t develop a consistent outside shot, I can easily see Trey getting traded because the two wouldn’t be able to co-exist. Trey needs the ball in his hands to be effective. In my opinion, Trey is more of a combo guard than a true PG, just my view. Long term, I certainly think Exum will be a better player than Trey.

Lot of unknowns about Exum? Did he fall to Jazz and they couldn’t pass, or are they not truly committed to Trey? Hard for me to believe they can co-exist together in the starting lineup, both to ball dependent IMO.

Exum has a post game and Burke can play off ball as a shooter.

I wonder when the last time was Burke seen any significant time as an off the ball shooter?

Very interesting move of Utah taking Exum. I think that it is a bit risky to take young international players who has not played at senior level, let alone for a PG.

If you can’t restructure your game in the NBA, you won’t last long.

Burke was always a much better shooter off the bounce at UM vs. catch and shoot - don’t know if there are any stats to back that up, but it is quite odd. No way can I see Trey being a 2 in the league.

Not sure I agree with that - Trey was a very good catch and shoot guy when he got open looks, IMO. It just didn’t happen often because he was usually the guy distributing to an open guy.

Of course he can’t guard an NBA two, but he could certainly spot up and make shots if Exum is a dribble and dish guy. Seems to me they can play together just fine.

Burke had a pretty solid rookie year, and with his work ethic I think he’ll be a good NBA player. Not a superstar, but a guy who will put up 16/7 for a contender. So I can’t see Utah drafting over him after a year - I imagine the Jazz also think they can play together just fine.

I think Burke is a really good backup in the league, but he will never be a starting PG for a championship caliber team in my opinion.

Good thing 25+ teams aren’t " championship caliber" annually and I disagree, PGs aren’t really that important and Burke is better than Mario Chalmers or Derek Fisher.

Trey can’t shoot or defend as well as Chalmers, nor can he finish as well. The only thing he does better is create, but he is limited in that role because he can’t finish over NBA defenders.

Trey is better than Fish as of this very moment, but in his prime Fish was a MUCH better defender. Better catch and shoot player than Trey and has always been clutch.

Quite frankly Trey’s ballhandling and change of direction only helps him to the extent that he can bury a midrange jumpshot because he can’t finish in the league and I don’t think of Trey as a true PG in the mold of CP or Rondo that makes their team vastly better. He is a scorer

I had to stop when you said Chalmers is a better shooter.

Mario, his 2 rings and his 37% 3 pt % say hello

Mario, his 2 rings and his 37% 3 pt % say hello

What does that have to do with him as a shooter?

He should have rings and a decent percentage playing on the Heat.

It says a lot that Miami is taking a lesser Burke in Napier and not resigning Chalmers.

I actually think Napier>trey in all facets of the game other than passing

Trey just came off a very solid rookie season, voted all-rockie first team. He might not be a future all-star but to say his future in the league is not a back-up.
