Potential 2014 Targets

David Carter hasn’t been the best at Nevada, either.

Nevada fans not happy and want him to go:

Nevada fans think he goes to UM. Claims he wants to be on a good team:

USC and UCLA are the other two to look out for…

All depends on his desire to go back home, which I assume is probably the real reason for his leaving. Don’t know if he would beat out either Looney or Bolden at Westwood?

I guess we will find out shortly. I will say his AAU coach is as big a fan of Stauskas, Sanderson and UM’s player development that I’ve come across. His twitter full of UM retweets. One thing that may trump home.

Hope it breaks our way. I don’t really like Dawkins as an option, we can do better than him IMO.

I wouldn’t mind Huff, Hawkins, and Wesley.
Huff sits out a year.
Hawkins learns while playing a few minutes of backup wing.
Wesley plays his final year as the key backup guard on a Top 25 team.

No visit dates have been set yet for Cole Huff but Dayton Iowa creighton Vanderbilt Michigan are the schools he’s most interested in

I’m not at all sure that Wesley is going to be happy as a backup guard, key or not. He was USC’s leading scorer last year by a wide margin, and also their leading rebounder. If he’s looking for a fifth year that will boost his NBA stock, he’s going to want to go to a school where he’ll start, and get a high profile and lots of touches. At Michigan, he’ll be competing with a potential first team All Big Ten guy in LeVert, along with Walton and Irvin, for minutes and points. From this program’s standpoint, despite his glitzy numbers (in a somewhat undertalented conference), a guy who may be auditioning for the scouts every time he’s on the floor may not be a great fit.

Regarding Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk:

“In the inquiry stage right now. Some other schools are too - Oregon, Virginia and SMU off the top of my head.”

I think he will be a 2015 recruit. As good or better than any guy currently being recruited that year.

TaShawn Thomas and Danuel House both received the ability to transfer from Houston with restrictions, source told ESPN.

Here are restrictions on both Thomas and House – no AAC, can’t go to school in Texas and can’t go anywhere on Houston’s 2014-15 schedule.

That thread says academically, he's a 2014 recruit and will be in America in a couple months. Reportedly, he turns 17 in June.

Frontrunners apparently are Kansas, Virginia, Oregon, Michigan, SMU

Would he be subject to the international NBA age limit of 19? If so, he’d be guaranteed to play two years in college assuming he starts next season (which seems to be the case). But the new NBA commissioner seems to be intent on changing the rules to two-and-done (and probably an international age limit of 20), possibly in time for the 2014 class to be subject to them.

Huff, Obi, Eron Harris, Tashawn Thomas or Svia for the last scholarship!

Schools vying for USC transfer Byron Wesley per his AAU coach: Cincy, Baylor, Indiana, Providence, Gonzaga, Michigan State, Pitt, OK State.

That list of schools for Wesley tells you all you need to know IMO. For the most part those offenses are very different than Michigan’s.

That guy is a terrible interviewer, he is just making up questions as he goes.

Who in your opinion runs an offense similar to UM?

Can’t think of any that would be identical to Michigan’s or anything … but MSU, Pitt, Ok St., Cincy, Providence all are probably okay witha guard that shoots a lot, but can’t hit a three. At Michigan, that just wouldn’t really work.

So Huff is still in the picture as far as any of us know. I am pretty sure I know the answer to this, but with one scholarship left, and the offer to Hawkins this weekend, does that mean if he accepts and Mitch stays they are done? I am fairly certain you need an open scholarship to take on a guy sitting out a transfer year, but I think thats odd that they would offer Hawkins and risk losing out on Huff when there is clearly mutual interest.

Huff wants USC and UCLA but UCLA doesn’t seem to have him as top priority and both are going hard after Elijah Stewart. Adams back to UCLA helps us, too.

As for scholarships, Mitch has 6 days to decide. If he comes back and Dawkins accepts, UM could take 1 more and hope Hatch gets a medical scholarship.

Personally, I think we can get Sviat. His top 4.

Us
KU: 1 scholarship and most likely going to a PG (Devontae Graham)
UVA: 2 scholarships and one is likely to Marial Shayok
SMU: who knows

I mentioned in the last Cole Huff thread that I work with his father at a High School in Inglewood. He stands outside my classroom between each class period and we talk basketball so I have a fairly good relationship for aquiring inside info in this case. I just spoke with him an gathered some valuable intel.

Cole “won” his appeal to Nevada’s blocked schools. They unblocked 5 schools: Pepperdine, San Diego State, UCLA, USC and I think Santa Barbara. Cole is not interested in USC because he does not like their coaches (there was a situation with one of their assistants when Cole was a senior in high school that has soured him to that staff). The only one of those schools that he is really interested in is UCLA. He is still waiting to hear from them. His former AAU coach told him on Saturday that UCLA wanted to do an in home visit today or tomorrow but he has not heard anything since. IF UCLA offers, they will be the favorite.

The current favorite is Iowa. Cole and his dad are planning a visit and have very strong interest. Creighton has been pushing hard and he likes them as well but they seem to be behind Iowa.

It does not sound like Michigan has acctually given commitable offers to Cole or Byron Wesly just yet. Cole’s dad told me that Belien is only really interested in the two of them if McGary decided to leave and the coaching staff is still waiting on that decision (from the sound of it the Mitch is still genuinely undecided). It was somewhat unclear if Huff and Wesley were only interested in Michigan if McGary left or if Michigan was only interested in them in McGary’s gone. Either way, those two are only in the fold if McGary is not. I realize that that doesn’t really make sense since they would have to sit out a year and McGary is likely gone after next year either way, but that is the information I was given. Maybe with MAAR’s commitment they don’t have the scholarship to offer but I was under the impression that they still had one spot open.

I will try to gather more information and clear up some of the ambiguities in the post after the next class period ends.

sigh

Of course, Beilein will not offer until there's a visit. Not seeing us going after Wesley, in any event. Don't know why McGary's status would mean anything to Huff, who has to sit out a year.
