Non-Conference Schedule

If Ohio State goes 9-9 maybe even 10-8 in the B1G and gets beat as bad by UNC as they did last night, I don’t see them having a tournament resume. Seriously, check out how bad their non-conference is, it is astounding.

What else caught your eye last night with the conference? Purdue will be very tough with Haas and Hammons.

What are you talking about, the game was a 5 point game for the last 10 minutes of the second half? They came out flat, but Louisville escaped moreso than won. I remember the same thing happened to us vs. OSU, and we went on the natl. championship game.

I am talking about exactly what I am talking about…

If OSU loses by 9 to UNC and goes 9-9 in the Big Ten, they don’t make the tournament, period.

I will even give them 1 win in the Big Ten Tournament

I will use current Pom Rankings as a gauge, but know they are not perfect.
Non conf wins would be:
285 UMASS Lowell
104 Marquette
259 Sacred Heart
307 Campbell
221 James Madison
199 Colgate
167 High Point
150 Morehead State
271 Miami of Ohio
159 Wright State

23-12 with that non conference schedule is not in the dance…how can you refute that?

They will be better than 9-9 or 10-8 in conference play in my opinion. How can you refute that?

They were 10-8 last year with a better team after starting 15-0

I don’t think they were a better team last year. I think they have much more talent this year on a macro level…young, but certainly more talented. Will be a different team come March.

It’s a weak non-con schedule (surprise, surprise…football and basketball they just won’t play anyone out of conference), but I doubt an OSU team with 23 wins is getting shut out of the tourney. Especially when the only non-con losses are to UNC and UL, both teams that have a good shot to be at least 4 seeds.

They were NOT a better team at all last year. They were one of the worst offensive teams in the entire big ten last year, and have unboubtedly improved on that. Although their defense was better last year, that doesn’t even come close to making up for the terrible offense. Also, a team that goes .500 in the big ten and is a household name like Ohio State, is almost definitely going to make the tourney.

That offense was putrid last year, that’s for sure

My eye test tells me they are improved from last year. I still think they finish 2nd in the conference standings and have no worries come Selection Sunday.

If/when OSU gets to 10(+) B1G wins, they will probably have some wins over Michigan, MSU, Wisky…the top dogs. There is no way a 10 win OSU team gets shut out of the tourney. None.

I said a 9 win team, which is very possible and much different than a 10 win team. For them to record all those quality wins in their 9, probably a chance at some bad losses. 9 and 9 would put them in doubt on Selection Sunday- more so if 9-9 is 6th or worse in the standings.

You did say “maybe” 10 win. No chance of that and probably a 9 win team.

Has a team had a winning b1g record and not made it? 9-9 is a big difference.

OSU is in the tournament…c’mon guys let’s be rational, but I agree With Pomandcircumstance that OSU is worst this year! I think Shannon Scott is totally overrated.

I think they get 10 wins in the B1G

I’d say they’re anywhere from a 4 to a 10 seed

Have to disagree with Scot being overrated, he has so much value regardless of what he does on offense. Truthfully, he’s a decent offensive player outside of shooting, and he’s not even bad in that regard to be honest…he’s shooting 33.3% from distance.

Has a team had a winning b1g record and not made it? 9-9 is a big difference.

In bowing out of this petty argument, why did you say “maybe” if that’s not what you meant? And OSU at 9-9 will have quality wins anyway that will get them in. This is ridiculous anyway because they will get to 10+ wins.

What I saw in the OSU v UL game last night actually scared me. If OSU can shoot like 30% from the floor and still have a chance to beat a top 5 team away from home after being down big, they can beat almost anyone when they’re on. Russel is legit btw, he was having trouble knocking down 3s, but he has multiple facets to his game.

On an unrelated note, the commentary from Shane Battier was terrible during that game.

Agree on all fronts there. Especially Battier. Jeezus. Disgrace.
