NCAA expected to vote on extra eligibility next week

Josh Langford should be healthy by then… and 25 years old

If not, Dr. Austin Davis can diagnose and treat.

Hmmm another year for brown and/or smith would be nice. If this does pass along with the no penalty transfer rule this spring, man oh man its going be wild.

I think the most likely guy to stay the extra year would be Brooks—Brown might have a future abroad, and Smith (and Davis) would be spending a sixth year in school, which they might not want to do. Brooks to mentor young guards would be a very good thing.

Smith was pretty clear on Nick and Brendan’s pod that his intention this year is to showcase himself for professional options overseas. Can’t imagine him wanting to come back to school for a sixth year.

Brown expressed a willingness to come back if he wasn’t immediately eligible, but I’d imagine any of them might leave for a good pro opportunity.

That makes perfect sense. Whether Austin might come back for a sixth year, and how that might impact recruiting if we don’t get our top targets at the 5 is more unclear, as is what Eli would do.

One question—if extra eligibility is granted, how will that affect scholarship limits?

I assume there would be some kind of adjustment to scholarship limits. No idea how all of this would play out though and not sure what they are doing in football (or spring sports from earlier this year).

I don’t think that Austin Davis coming back for a 6th year would really impact Michigan’s need at the five in the 2021/transfer class, either.

More interesting is the chaos that could happen if everyone gets another year. Would they all be grad transfers? Will all transfers be eligible already pending legislation? Could be one of the most insane transfer spring/summer periods ever.

Love it when players spoken intentions heading into the season are “to showcase themselves for potential professional options overseas.”

Seems to be a pretty big part of why anyone would grad transfer up a level, no? I don’t really understand why that would be a negative.

I have no doubt he wants to “showcase” himself. Just hope it translates to include the team.

Highly suggest you listen to the pod. Feels like you are skewing his comments to a negative slant that wouldn’t have come off if you listened to the interview.

Seems like a great kid. Hope the Team does fantastic under his leadership this season.
