NCAA 2019: Michigan vs. Texas Tech Open Thread

The lengthy NCAA Tournament half time allows for extra fiery takes.

Think the game will come down to 3s. Michigan was 0-of-9 from 3 in the 1st with a few near-misses. Texas Tech was 2-of-8 but banked one in. If Michigan hits a few threes then momentum could shift quickly.

Well thats not the case tonight. Right now this is straight up about heart and mental tenacity. Inexcusable missing layups and throwing Merry Xmas passes.

Dylan I hope you’ve been reading and enjoying the hot takes on here over the past 15 mins haha… it’s been getting wild

Imo Iggy is trying/has the potential to be that Alpha dog…but he’s not quite there yet. Next year we will see a big step from him.

I know that this team isn’t exactly a bunch of sharpshooters but they aren’t this awful. I have to wonder if shooting in the bigger arena is really bothering them and contributing to the rough shooting.

that bank shot by Mooney was absolutely garbage. dude threw up a turnaround fadeaway 25-footer and perfectly bank swishes it? give me a break. that’s the kinda rotten ass luck Michigan’s had tonight.

That, and a late start (late to begin with, then late-late), tons of stoppages. Just a choppy-ass game.

I really think the “we’re just missing shots” take is way off. Take a rewind through all those threes. They weren’t good shots, we aren’t forcing Tech to rotate at all and are taking contested threes because we don’t know what else to do. Clear that the team just doesn’t have the skillset to attack this style of D.

Yeah. And I think Poole could eventually do it (he showed a few flashes vs. Fla.) but he’s not quite there either.

Teske and Livers’s threes that rimmed out were in rhythm shots. Matthews’s was a little forced but not a terrible shot. iggy has forced some looks from three. and X has definitely forced some shots around the rim.

One of Poole’s was perfectly acceptable as well.

Too my eyes, TTU isn’t giving us much.

I think both things can be true. I think it was bad luck that we rimmed out ~3 threes and Tech banks in an absolute prayer. I also think that our offense is overmatched against this defense, kinda like we all anticipated. But not this badly

Agreed. Majority of threes were well-contested and there’s one guy on the team who can hit contested threes consistently and he hasn’t done it since November. Credit to TT

I agree with this. We haven’t gotten quality shots at all

As I said up above right when the half ended, we had 2-3 good looks. Not great out of 9 shots.

I had a feeling we’d see one of those back cut plays out of the half… gotta manufacture some points

Been away from the thread most of game guys, but just caught up on all the comments. Have to say it’s amazing how little faith is shown in this group given a 30-6 season and some very good players out there. Also, given who we are playing regarding their D. We need the collective positivity and mental toughness here!

EDIT: Go Blue!
