Michigan Women's Hoops

That was ugly but a quality win. Minnesota was 15th in NET.

I switched over to the Pistons at halftime but I’ll watch the 2nd half later. It seemed like eventually they were going to find their way. That’s what good teams do.

Hard fought win over a team that plays great defense. Olson was fantastic, the women finally made their free throws, and Dudley actually with a really nice bounce back half in the 2nd. The shorts remain undefeated.

The shorts?

My lucky Michigan shorts

Didn’t have them on until way too late in the UW game

I’d guess the crowd will be about the same with maybe a few less Michigan fans. They are 0-3 in B1G play so they should be less of a threat than Minnesota was.

Let’s get that W!

18-2 to start for Michigan no weird voodoo here

If this dude says “drawls” one more time…

Checking the box score, it looks like Te’Yalla and BQD look like they’re leading the way.

We’re getting the performance from the women tonight that we expected from the men Tuesday night.

This man really said, “These shots have been in-and-out like a west coast burger.” He’s been sitting on that one for a while, I bet.

I hope we can keep Delfosse around

Such a big leap this year - she was clearly talented last year, but really put it together

I hope Swords didn’t get another broken nose.

25-30 from the FT line. That’s big!

they could’ve gone 0-30 and they would’ve won by a mere 15!

Serious question, I haven’t watched a lot of Michigan WBB games due to where I live, but I’ve seen Olivia Olson getting recognition for awards. I was under the impression that Syla Swords is the best player. I’m assuming that Swords is having a down year relative to her expectations/production.

Olivia was rated a little higher as a recruit but both were 5-stars and McD AA’s. However, Syla went off against South Carolina in last year’s opener and emerged as the star during their freshman year. Since then, Liv has been closing the gap (as have Mia and Te-Yala. It was a loaded recruiting class) and Olson may be the more well-rounded player.

Syla’s scoring and shooting is down this year but I’d say that she’s still the best bet to have a 30+ point game and is likely to be taking the last shot in a close contest. Olson might set her up for the shot, though.

Agree entirely with this.

To watch her, Olivia is almost boring in her efficiency, but she’s extremely consistent on a night-in/night-out basis. She just slowly chips away without doing much that’s flashy, and at the end of the night you look and, ho-hum, she has 20 points again.

Here’s Olivia going back to December:

Basically, you’re going to get somewhere near 18 points a night on pretty high 2-point efficiency from her, and she’s going to do a good amount of that in the midrange.

That said, I was actually surprised to see the point consistency Syla is putting up recently. To me, she always seems more mercurial in her scoring, and her night-to-night output typically seems to be more dependent on whether she’s shooting well from three, but the numbers below call me a lair. This is pretty much the picture of consistency in scoring output since December:

One major difference this year is that Syla is shooting much better from 3 than Olivia is. Olivia’s 3P% is down over 10% from last season whereas Syla’s has basically stayed the same.

Last year, Olivia shot better (38.3%) than Syla (35.7) from 3, albeit on much lower volume (2.8 attempts/game vs. 6.0 attempts/game for Syla).
