Did KBA schedule this game before all the portaling?
I checked that yesterday, but no. The game was announced in late May whereas the transfers happened in late April.
Discussion surrounding playing the game may have very well begun before the transfers, but I don’t know how we could know that.
There’s basically no downside to playing South Carolina on a neutral where you presumably get some money, right?
Just a beatdown, but it could be good experience. And, if we keep it close, it’s a confidence-booster.
I guess that’s my question: do they definitely make money on the game?
I don’t know the contract, but that’s usually how those sorts of events work.
Looks like OSU is getting $50k to play in the other half of the double header (men’s):
It’s not the only neutral-site game the Buckeyes will be paid for. The Buckeyes will open the season against Texas on Nov. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Series. Ohio State agreed to the event and location without knowing its opponent, receiving a letter dated Sept. 25, 2023, stating it would play “a mutually agreed upon team.” The contract was signed Feb. 19 by Michael Papadakis, Ohio State’s senior vice president for business and finance.
The Buckeyes will be paid $50,000 for participating in the event, while ticket revenues will go to the hall of fame and the arena and leftover profits will go solely to the hall of fame.
The way these sort of things work – and this would be the same idea as Michigan/Arkansas on the men’s side – is that you agree to play in the event, then they find the other team. Obviously some negotiating, but something like that.
I would think the WBB teams maybe get paid less, but the reason you play in these events is also to be invited to other HOF events, etc.
By keeping it close, you mean keep it within 20-30 points?
Anything less than 30 would be a moral W
I guess I’d say within 10-15 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Ehhhh, I would be happy if they get within 20-30 points at the end of 3rd quarter. I’m expecting a 40-50 point blowout loss.
Going better than I thought it would! Jumped out to an early lead but the Gamecocks have bounced back. 11-10 lead with 2:17 to go in the first quarter.
Freshmen are playing confident, even with the mistakes.
21-18 lead after the 1st
I fully expect SC to still win this game by double digits but what a huge half from Michigan. Leading the defending champs, who would have thought? Freshmen look legit, particularly Swords.
3 former McDonald’s all Americans starting. Looking forward to watching the women’s team this year!
Wild. Michigan leads at half

How can I watch this game?
It’s on TNT
Swords is really good
