So Brazdeikis should be making high 6 figures this year. An example of how being a second round pick is not the end of the world.
Well, we have state income tax of 10% on everything over $250,000, so . . .
Right, but as US residents in Canada they also owe our IRS and possibly state taxes on top of the tax in Canada.
Donāt owe state taxes. You have to be a resident for that. But the IRS taxes whateverās left after host country taxes (you can deduct up to 75K of foreign income I think, which is ludicrously punitive, but the empire must be maintained). Worked for the Romans.
Iām still blown away that heās in the pros.
So its not a 2 way contract?
No, not a two-way
I think I read itās a three year deal with two years guaranteed. Again a wise choice by Iggy to turn proā¦getting a minimum of $898K per year to practice his skill set and get better.
I have to think itās kind of reached the point that if you can have a guarantee in the second round, you should leave school - the leverage and contracts that second rounders demand now are just far greater than several years ago.
I really used to believe that 1st rounders should go due to the contract guarantee of the draft slot, but now second rounders are getting that guarantee for a few years.
July 15 is the key date. If they keep him n July 15, which they clearly will, the full salary amt. for the year is guaranteed.
Iggy had himself a game last night! 30 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast, 11/19 FG, 3/6 3FG.
Iām keeping my fingers crossed for Duncan, he has a great shot. There is chatter about Westbrook going to the heat which could create a trade or knock him out. Either way I think he can stick, the NBA will find a place for his 3 ball!
Westbrook and Butler together? Could be quite the clash of personalities.
Also rumored that Detroit and the Rockets are interested in Westbrook. No shortage of personalities on either of those teams either - although still hoping the Pistons land him
As a pistons fan, no thanks. Would help bring us top top 5 in the east, but it delays a rebuild and heās going to be making sooooooo much money in the last couple years of his deal. Iāve liked what theyāve done this offseason (short term contracts to proven vets, drafting Doumbaya) but trading for Westbrook would undo the smart decisions theyāve made.
What about Gores makes you think he wants a rebuild? Dude seems like heād lose his left arm for those two playoff gates each year.
I never gave too much thought about Toronto being an undesirable landing spot for players until I listened to Sweet Lou talk about his time playing there on the Gil Arenas pod. He pretty much said he was excited at first but after about four or five months and all the extra things heād had to pay for and deal with specifically because he was in another country he was over it and ready to be out of there.
When he took on the Griffin contract, he pretty much guaranteed that heād have to try for the playoffs for the remainder of that contract. We are in a bad salary situation and canāt do a true rebuild til those are off the books. Griffin has 3 more years, Dre has one more and then a player option (which I would assume heād take as itās $28 million a year). Probably canāt trade either of those guys and get any semblance of a decent return until theyāre approaching their final year and teams want to put themselves in a salary dump situation. Since youāre stuck with these contracts, might as well try to make the playoffs and see what happens as you canāt dump them until those contracts are on their last legs. And signing Rose and Markeiff Morris and trading for Snell, you have some veteran depth that will come off the books within the next two years along with those Dre and Griffin contracts. Then you can actually rebuild the roster around Doumbaya (if he develops) or tank and get some top 5 picks.
If we take on Westbrook, he still has four more years and $170 million. That just delays the inevitable rebuild. I wouldnāt put it past Gores, but I have no doubt that the President/GM are on a different page than him. Signing Westbrook doesnāt mesh with their other moves this summer IMO. Granted, they didnāt know Westbrook would be available. But it just doesnāt make sense with what theyāve done. Trading for Westbrook costs you some young assets (either players or picks) and hurts you long term. Might help shortterm. Iām sure they could challenge for the 4th seed, but beyond that, thereās no upside. Westbrook isnāt even a guarantee to work. He canāt shoot and the floor is already shrunk with Griffin and Dre at our 4/5. Griffin has become a capable shooter, but heās not stretching the floor massively. Westbrook is a player you could have if we had other shooters. But we are sorely lacking in shooters so I donāt even think he makes us all that much better than we are with Reggie Jackson. And thatās not saying theyāre comparable players in overall talent and impact. But with the makeup of the rest of the roster, Westbrook might not move the needle all that much.
Iām going to miss what we couldāve had but Iām excited about the future. I already canāt wait to see how poole and iggy does. I have a feeling that next Year It maybe Brandon Johnās, Xavier and jon that I see next year.
