Wondering if THJ is a sign and trade

They really need that money for a #2 since kristaps went belly up.

No all the talk has been about Dallas wanting THJ back as a priority. I think they’re just rolling with Kristaps and a new coach. There’s also not a #2 out there to be had except like Demar Derozan

It’s not Tim’s fault and he’s worth the deal, but this basically forecloses any shot of a title with Luka.

In other words: I like this deal if Kristaps didn’t have a seven foot fork stuck in his back.

What did Jalen Coleman-Lands sign for?

I’m hoping Cade is such a success that they are able to get someone in FA in 2-3 years who wants to play with him.

Yeah the Pistons are in this really good spot where they can just play the young kids and even if they’re feisty their depth won’t be good enough to get them across the line. Find some reclamation projects, keep your pick next year, maybe even take on a bad contract for another pick at the deadline depending on how it looks like the young core is advancing. You’re trying to get ~3 young cheap legit starters + a star a la the Suns. They’re on their way but don’t think you want to give up optionality just yet.

Yeah I do not get what the Mavs are doing. Guessing this is GM Luka calling shots now that he cleared out everybody else.

Right. I think that’s the plan for not spending big on FAs this summer hopefully. If Detroit is a bottom 8 or 9 ish team, they have a decent shot of being top 6 or so in the next draft, and I’d say the top 8 or so guys right now look pretty good. Nothing like the top 5 or so prospects this year but still pretty good. Add that rookie if they get luck in the lottery, and if Cade kills it while the other youngsters continue to develop properly then maybe Detroit can convince one or two all stars/borderline all stars to come to Detroit because of the project looking good. Then Detroit can look like a serious contender.

I think we maximized what he could do.

Maybe, but the Pistons should be pretty stacked. I feel like the only thing stopping them from winning the SL is if Stew has to sit out with his ankle injury.

So let’s take stock of where our Michigan players are a few days into free agency:

  • Tim Hardaway - Resigned with Mavs
  • Duncan Robinson - Resigned with Heat
  • Caris Levert - Still on Pacers
  • Jordan Poole - Still on Warriors…somewhat surprisingly still playing summer league apparently
  • Trey Burke - ???
  • Franz Wagner - Drafted by Magic, likely to be in rotation/start
  • Isaiah Livers - Drafted by Pistons, likely to stick on bench?
  • Iggy Brazdeikis - Playing summer league with Magic, no contract
  • Jon Teske - Playing summer league with Magic, no contract
  • Xavier Simpson - Playing summer league with Lakers, no contract
  • Chaundee Brown - Playing summer league with Lakers, no contract
  • Mike Smith - Playing summer league with Bucks, no contract
  • Derrick Walton - Playing summer league with Kings, no contract
  • Charles Matthews - Playing summer league with Sixers, no contract
  • Moe Wagner - Free agent
  • Glenn Robinson - Free agent
  • DJ Wilson - Free agent
  • Ibi Watson - Playing summer league with Hawks, no contract

Am I missing anyone? I didn’t see anything about Stauskas though I know he played for the Raptors G-league team last year. I suppose Ekpe Udoh might make another run at the NBA since he played in the Olympics. Here’s a link to a site tracking summer league announcements.

Trey Burke is still signed to the Mavs. Could be moved for money saving purposes, but on their books as on now

Burke has 2 years left on his deal.

I think the ageless one may hang them up…but I guess we shouldn’t rule it out.

I was impressed that there are 18 former Michigan players that will have a shot at an NBA jersey this year…but a closer look reveals that only about 5-6 of them are going to get any meaningful playing time.

This probably spells the end for Moe, no?

May not be good news for Big Sleep, neither.

Gotta think Timmy insisted on $1 million more.

I was going to post something far less clever and subtle. Kudos.
