This seems like a roster that can win the Summer League title.
Thatâs the way she goes for 90% of 2nd round picks. Chances are Isaiah is in the same boat 3 years from now.
I think Iggyâs career in the NBA is probably over. But he can do very well for himself overseas if he wants to.
And every year we get closer to putting together a sick hypothetical Michigan TBT team
Yeah, youâre definitely right about that being the path for so many draft picks. I always wonder what happens if he stays another year at MichiganâŚprobably about the same but heâs a little less wealthy. Hopefully NIL evolves in a way that guys like Iggy have a legit choice to make and maybe staying another year to try and improve their draft status doesnât meant they forego millions of dollars.
Wonder if NIL helps Michigan in particular there. If Iggy was comfortably making $500K at UM, he doesnât leave until he graduates, right? Whatâs the number that buys out a second rounder?
I donât know what that number is. He was making about a million per year in the NBA.
But Iâll believe a Michigan basketball player can make $500k when a Michigan basketball player makes 500k
Yeah I think Ignas is likely done in the NBA for the time being, and it would appear Glenn Robinson is too, given the lack of interest in picking him up after the Kings released him.
I donât think itâs the most likely outcome for them (I imagine that DJ and Mo are signing minimum 1 year deals this off-season) but DJ and Mo arenât a given either.
Tim will get paid a bunch of money by someone - I donât think the Pistons makes sense for either party.
Iggyâs contract was 2 years w/ a team option for a 3rd with $2.4M in guaranteed money according to the NY Post so I was not even close to buying him out w/ my hypothetical $1.5M over 3. Which, fair enough, seems high to folks at this point to begin with. For now at least, seems plausible the guys who can really get deals will probably skip out on being two-ways but if you can get any kind of guaranteed money youâre gone.
Wow Iggy made out really well there. Played in 20 NBA games and got 2.4 mill
Well, part of the idea I was throwing out there with NIL is that you make SOME money by staying another year but then you combine that with moving up your draft position the following year. So letâs say Iggy makes the $500k you projected his sophomore year, does really well on a big stage as the star for a good team, gets picked in the first round, and signs a better deal than the $2.4M he got. THEN youâre in business from an NIL point of view.
NowâŚit is very debatable whether thereâs that much NIL money out there or whether heâd be able to improve his stock that much.
The draft twitter guy discussed on another thread today made some interesting tweets that are somewhat relevant to the discussion though not that applicable to Iggy to me since I feel like he was a pretty tapped out guy already
InterestingâŚand maybe not wrong for fringe guys. But for first rounders who are expected to contribute relatively early itâs very relevant to leave ASAP. Miles Bridges for example probably cost himself many millions for staying an additional year as a top 20 lock and then his stock plateauâd or dropped if anything.
It is more about the perceived ceiling. If your perceived ceiling is limited, staying in general benefits, especially with NIL. if your perceived ceiling is high, leave before the perception might change.
Get that money big fella
And there it is:
Congrats, Duncan!
Well deserved! Set for life now
Way to go DRob. All your hard work has paid off immensely.
The three ballers are cashing in!! Congratulations to THJ and DR!
Iâm glad it played out like this for THJ. I really wanted to see him in a Pistons uni but Iâm praying the Pistons are still a lottery team that ends up with a top 5 or 6 pick next year to maybe truly help them really contend in the future. Getting THJ wouldâve hindered the cap space for next year when many top free agents are available and made them better, which couldâve put them back in that weird purgatory of being a 8ish seed and not getting a great draft pick not making noise in the playoffs. Totally for another low wins season. Hopefully the win total is closer to 30 though and still competitive.
I still think Robinson could have made more money if Beilein drew plays up for him at Michigan. Left a lot of money on the table.
