I would pay too much money for a DRob USA jersey

I love Duncan, but putting aside my fandom this is absolute insanity with how exposed they’ve been for not having a real center on the roster. This was the get out of jail free card. Obviously Duncan is a solid replacement in style, but whoever is running the show here has seemingly no clue how to build a dang roster:

They had 3 big centers in the World Cup and they were all hot garbage. So I get what they were thinking initially. And I’m still a bit torn. I wouldn’t mind adding Myles Turner if he’s down. Otherwise the US center options are not so good.

I think the bigger issue might be not having a true PG on the team. It’s a collection of scorers, but it’s light on facilitators. Depending on what happens with Jeremi Grant they may have two openings though. Wouldn’t mind a PG and a Center. There are not many real good American centers though. Last Olympics the only two centers were Demarcus Cousins and Deandre Jordan and neither guy is good anymore. World Cup was Brook Lopez, Mason Plumlee and Myles Turner (who was hurt). Just not many great options there

What happened with Jerami Grant? Hopefully not COVID or the whole team is in danger.

But I agree. I’d like to see them ask Mike Conley, he’d be a good fit. Also a guy like FVV or Malcolm Brogdon would be a good fit.

Grant entered Covid “health and safety protocols” even though he didn’t test positive so I’m not sure what level of risk he is to the team or for missing the Olympics.

Sounds like as long as he doesn’t test positive he’ll be ok

As I think about it more, I feel like a guard is definitely the way to go. Adding a center to the team just gives them way too many guys that can only play center. Now if they have Love fake an injury and replace him with a real Center I can get behind that. But adding another center to Love, Bam, and Draymond who are all centers just seems like hurting the teams versatility.

I viewed defense as the main issue in both losses over facilitation issues. That’s where I’m coming from here. Just a solid body in there would help against many of the teams IMO.

They’re all centers, but none of them are centers. That’s why I’m whining and moaning about team building.

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I think it’s just too late and they’ve gotta commit to it at this point. Love has looked so bad and seems like an insane pick by Colangelo or Pop or whoever

I’ve watched that games. The problem is that they haven’t figured out the pick and roll coverages. They’re not getting manhandled in the paint because they’re too small. Australia seemed to beat them going five out and slipping screens.

Love is useless and like @kturnup my first thought was that I’d rather have Myles Turner.

Is Myles Turner even healthy? He missed the end of the season and I thought he was considering surgery. The American center market is slim pickings.

Also I think 3 point defense was a bigger contributor to the losses than interior defense. The opponent bigs haven’t killed them. Nigeria shot 48% and Australia shot 42% from 3. That’s not going to cut it.

Kevin Love was a baaaad pickup. No other bigs have his experience but if you got guys like KD in the fold I think that mitigates that quite a bit. Could’ve added a better big than Love.

I was surprised they picked Love over Julius Randle. But Randle is another undersized big so I’m not sure he fills the “big” role that some are clamoring for. He’s a much better player though and would be a better use of a roster spot

Ewww hard hard pass on Randle. He’s a ball dominant player with a one year track record of being good. Last thing we need.

Haha I think as a Hawks fan you may be a little jaded by his horrendous performance in that first round series

Hunter Dickinson seems the perfect fit

So they just need a non-star stout big who can play drop, guard the rim, and screen for 10-20 min a night? How about Richaun Holmes? Or heck, Robin Lopez?
