From the NBA subreddit: āThere will not be a Tim Hardaway IIIā
If Team USA wants an elite shooter for spacing and just pick the best team, not pick the best collection of talents, Duncan should be in consideration especially when he can play PF and is a zone breaker.
Great to hear. Iām really glad he got traded and the medical exam caught this and allowed him to get it treated.
You guys can tell me if you find these tedious. If not, Iām going to indulge myself and update every few weeks. Buckle in, this is a ROUGH one for our Wolverines:
Ignas Brazdeikis remains on the roster but has yet to enter a game decided by less than 20 points.
After getting DNPād for 4 games, and playing 1 minute in a fifth since our last update, Jordan Poole has returned the rotation, but barely. Golden State hasnāt played many competitive games lately, and heās largely played sparingly. Heās 7/18 from the floor in this span and 4/12 from 3. Not great, but better than what he was doing. The Warriors have found themselves startling competitive without Klay, but after Steph there really isnāt a very good offensive player hereā¦itās my bet Poole keeps getting some chances because nobody is taking the reins.
There really is no update on Mo Wagner - he had seemingly returned to the rotation when last we spoke, and posted two very āMo Wagner gamesā 22 points and 14 boards over 39 minutesā¦and 8 fouls. But Washington has basically been shut down for 12 days with Covid, and Mo is apparently one of the (many) in the protocol. Soā¦best of luck to him.
We received our answer on āIs DJ Wilson in the rotation?ā! He is not. He has not played since our last update.
We all know about the scary news around Caris Levert. Obviously, he is not playing, nor will he indefinitely, after a procedure with an optimistic prognosis. Given that, I wanted to think for a moment about his role in Indianapolis. Caris is under contract for two more seasons, during which time most of the Pacers good players - Domantas Sabonis, Malcolm Brogdon, and Myles Turner - are also under contract. I think they still have some things to work out in the front court, but given the trade, I think itās logical to see Caris as taking Oladipoās role in the offense - as a secondary ball-handler and scorer (with Brogdon being the primary). Oladipo had consistent minutes and a solid usage - this team is going to need Caris to help create shots both for himself and others. I think itās a good role for him, and a more consistent one than he would have had in Brooklyn.
Glenn Robinson is getting consistent 18-20 minutes for one of the most dismal teams in the league right now, that just cannot stop anyone. This is far from where the Kings saw themselves, and there are many culprits, but Glenn is about what youād expect. Solid defense, comically low usage, and heās 8 of his last 15 threes (on few attempts a game).
The Mavericks got smashed by Covid since our last update, with 5 rotation players hitting the protocols. This has given Trey Burke a large role - 27 minutes a game since we last spoke. With the exception of a 2/12 and a 2/7 game in that span, heās mostly shot pretty well, but overall heās 43% from the floor and 35.7% from three, which are FINE, but not great. Jalen Brunson has returned, so his numbers should recede a little bit, but with Josh Richardson and other still out, they need guys to shoot the ball.
Tim Hardaway is scoring nearly 17 ppg in this span (would be better but he put up a bagel in one game on a ROUGH 0/12 night). If we ignore that stinker, heās shot well - 43% including the 0/12 from the floor. Everyone on the Mavs has been stretched recently - Kristaps is only good for a few minutes a night still, and several perimeter players have been sidelined with Covid. This means lots of players have had to expand to fill larger roles than theyāre used to, including Timmy.
Duncan Robinson has made 32 three pointers in his last 8 games since our last update, and is shooting 44.4% from beyond the arc in that span. The main growth in his game this year is that heās been pulling out an extra free-throw shot every game (which in his case is generally good for an extra point). As always, the flack he gets defensively is undeserved - the Heat are actually a better defensive team in the minutes he plays than the ones he doesnāt (admittedly, heās almost always out there with Bam).
The opposite. Valued content here for me. Canāt bring myself to watch much NBA. Initial thought when Michigan was shut down was not that itās a chance to look more at the Pistons, but at the conference.
Please continue, these are great
This is great, thanks for the effort.
I watch very little NBA. I sometimes wonder how ex-Michigan guys are doing, but I donāt wonder enough to check for myself. These updates are perfect.
Regarding Poole
These are the best posts in this thread by a country mile, (no offense to everyone else here.)
I went through the whole thread to confirm @Mdemorest4ās point (I can confirm it), but in doing that I think I found one of the worst takes in UMHoops history. Caris was a victim of the system? Look at what he did in 2016 in that system lol.
I looked at this personās post history and they havenāt posted in years, but their last set of posts was a crazy argument that ended in a bet with another person who hasnāt posted in years. How do we get these people back and get this man his $200?
The guy who said Michigan would never field a top 50 defense under Beilein surlely was not prepared for Luke mother****ing Yaklich to enter the building.
Iām starting to definitely understand why this era of UMHoops was known as the āWild West era.ā That whole thread is absolutely insane.
Guestavo definitely had some takes back in the day, thatās for sure
This is awesome
Draymond Green approves of this.
Not only do I LOVE these posts as someone who only pays casual attention to the NBAā¦feel free to do them as often as you want.
A few years ago I tried to add to these with the occasional post about how our alums were doing in various international leagues. It was fun to dig up information and find out about players having long, successful careers in random countries (Courtney Sims played for a while in Asia; Josh Asselin played forever). Unfortunately it is hard to find some of that infoā¦so it isnāt as fun to do when thereās so much more interesting stuff happening with our current team or NBA players.
Not really sure why Beilein had to stay through 2020/2021 in this bet? If he fielded a top 50 defense anytime before that while at Michigan it should have been a win.
