Heading to B6.
We’re heading to the bottom of the 7th, still chasing two.
No dice. Season over.
They had a great run in the B1G but I guess a deep run wasn’t meant to be. It’s sad to see the seniors not have one last magic moment.
Seems our defense was not at its best today.
The infield and pitching had a tough time. Some plays were made and some weren’t. It’ll be interesting to see what the pitching staff looks like next year. Derk and Emerson Aiken have graduated.
Hoehn stepped into a strong role this season and seems to be the #1 for next year. Ferguson, Bennett, and Meyers all saw action and had their moments. But I don’t know if we have that dominant pitcher that we’ve almost always seemed to have had. Time will tell.
The good news is, barring any portal departures, we have a really good offensive core coming back. Langford will be a senior and hit over .400 this year. Then Conway, Putz, Stephenson, Vallimont, Erickson and Raimey are all either juniors or sophomores. Fantucci became a starter over the last couple of weeks and may build on that. Plus, there were several highly regarded freshman and at least one highly-ranked recruit coming in. As long as pitching is handled, I think they can exceed this year.
I was looking back at some past year’s stats and I didn’t realize how damn good of a pitcher Megan Betsa was. I knew she was really good but 2017 was the first year that I shot games and she averaged 1.8 strikeouts per inning. That’s ridiculous! Texas Tech’s million dollar pitcher is averaging 1.4 this year. Of course she can hit too, but it’s still crazy.
IF Michigan went looking in the portal for a pitcher, this would be a good one to target:
In deep Non-Revenue Sports news: the club softball team won the National Championship.
We’re on Day 6 since the season ended and no players from the softball team have hit the portal.
I don’t know what the usual timeline is but I think this is pretty encouraging. For example, St. Francis University (who also made the tourney) had 10 players make the jump within 48 hours of their season ending. Granted, that could be a bunch of MM players seeing that they would have bigger opportunities out there but it shows that even competitive teams had quick departures.
In a somewhat related story, Michigan State also lost their best hitter.
It seems likely that the baseball team’s season is over:
Big news for the Michigan men’s hockey team! They got a massive commitment from Canadian goalie Jack Ivankovic. Dude is already rated as the #4 North American goalie in the draft prospects for next year.
This one is being talked up as a goalie that can win you a Frozen Four. Love to see it!
Still need to get McKenna and a couple more. Ivankovic struggled in Brampton this year based on standards and expectations. Upgrade over Korpi though.
Well I’ll tell you, if it makes anyone feel better about the softball team’s exit, Texas just moved onto the National Championship series. They haven’t lost a game in the WCSWS yet.
That does, and someone other than Oklahoma winning it all also makes me happy. New blood!
Although it’s almost time to start the 2025-26 thread, I guess there are still some track & field stuff going on.
Also- there still haven’t been any softballers who have hit the portal.
Savannah Sutherland is running the 400m hurdles right now on ESPN.
She wins her heat by over 2 seconds.
Wrapping up the '24-'25 non-rev sports thread with accolades:

That is beautifully dominant.
