Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

Maybe I’m overthinking it but Sam’s wording on his tweet has me a little nervous. Saying it’s “premature” rather than just calling it false. Also saying they may eventually land on him, kind of seems like preparing us for the inevitable which hasn’t been finalized.

Tons of concerns with his flex offense, I think it’s garbage. We ran it at OLSM in the early 2000’s and it only worked because we had more talent then everybody else.

He needs to adjust.

Still hoping for Smart/Yach somehow

I love UM hoops, but I really don’t know if I can commit to 30+ games of that flex offense. Don’t think I can watch it.

@Wolverine3 Weren’t you real into Cooley a few hours ago?

This program’s goal should have risen higher than making the tournament and losing immediately most seasons.

Here’s another one to chew on, then. “Yet”

I’m probably being dramatic and emotional, but I seriously don’t think I could handle watching Cooley’s teams as attentively as I have watched Michigan basketball for the last decade. At the very least, a Cooley hire would cause me to attempt to find other hobbies that I enjoy as much as obsessing over the wonderful content/community at UMhoops every day.

I guess in the end, it may depend on how willing to take a risk Manuel is on hiring Juwan. Obviously, with who the reported candidates are, there is a level of risk to all of them. But, Juwan is definitely the riskiest since he hasn’t ever coached a second in college and hasn’t been a head coach. That’s a gamble.

Howard will be the popular pick if it’s him but will Manuel feel more comfortable picking a coach who has the experience of running a major college program?

Cooley will be a very unpopular pick if it’s him and seems like a very blah choice but it wouldn’t shock me if Manuel goes with him over Howard.

I have to assume that he will adjust his offense when he gets here. It just seems unfathomable not too at least retain Saddi or Haynes for continuity there.

I don’t really think that retaining Saddi or Haynes would allow you to necessarily run Beilein’s offense, if that is what you are saying. The offense was Beilein’s.

Not to mention, Ed Cooley isn’t going to get the biggest job of his life and then not coach the way he’s coached his whole career.

I know the JB offense is gone. Just hoping for anything but that offense.

I’d be surprised if Cooley kept any assistants, he’s incredibly loyal and I would imagine he’d bring his entire staff.

I definitely don’t think Cooley would change his offense. The flex is his baby. That’s what he is known for. He has instructional videos on it.

That’s exactly my worry- why would we think he would coach any different than he has on either side of the ball? I’m potentially even less optimistic than you about his ceiling here. I think it may be Minnesota level, constantly on the bubble or fighting for a date in Dayton.

Can someone talk me into a full blown Cooley rebuild? I know it may be premature… just want to prepare…

Man, I had no clue. That’s crazy to me.

I think the no-namer Providence kid got what he wanted tonight. That is all.

If we’re hiring someone with instructional videos we should just get Tom Emanski and keep all the assistants.

I think someone at Providence wants to tank Cooley to Michigan and used this kid to float info that would rile up Michigan guys.

The fact that Cooley has not came out and shot any of this down by now tells me 2 things…

  1. he wants the job
  2. he thinks he has a really good chance at getting it
