Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

Michigan wants to play big time sports but has a mid major mentality. The only time we went big time is with Harbaugh (but his previous ties played a huge role).

247 is running a promo, first month $1. Webb quotes a (insider I presume) source fawning over Moser. “He’s next best pick after Brad Stevens. He turned down St. Johns and UNLV they weren’t good fits, he has won at a high level, he doesn’t cheat, and he worked under a tremendous coach in Rick Majerus. He has won conference championships, has been to a Final Four, and he can really relate to kids. With the Michigan name behind him, he would get into households and do really well.”

LOL. That source is an idiot and I hope has nothing to do with the search. St. John’s and UNLV are so far behind Michigan as a program right now

Dot, given it seems that Moser was on Warde’s short list last year, where do you personally place his chances within the context of the new hiring of a search firm and conducting a national search? Does the latter “reset” the chances on Moser at all?

Oh. My. God. Did someone actually mention UNLV and St. John’s as points of reference for Michigan!?! Holy mother of delusion!

I personally would take Jon Horfords comments with a grain of salt. People I know who knew a younger Jon always said he was a bit different and going from Beilein to most coaches would likely be a big change I’m guessing. But what really makes me question his opinion is that he had clearly gotten input from Al before going. If he was a psycho as Jon puts it wouldn’t Al have told him to stay away? Lastly, if you’ve ever seen a guy like Coach K unfiltered you’d know that most of these coaches are highly competitive and at times would appear psycho to a guy like Jon who never had the motor his brother did.

speaking of selling short of the M brand

:cold_sweat:

Agreed. Turning down those two is a pretty low threshold for a feather in one’s cap. You’d have to be high to compare Moser (.500 in-conference at Loyola) to Stevens (.792 at Butler). There’s a ton of dubious projections in that quotation.

For reference, I just went through every season possible and Virginia is the first team since at least 2002 (that’s when 247 stops tracking recruits) to win a title without a composite 5 star on the roster (trust me, most of these teams had more than one). That’s a ridiculous stretch. The team that ended it had 3 top 50 upperclassmen to boost them there too. Unless you have a 0.1% guy like Beilein talent wins out almost every time.

Not too shocking that the AD who went on vacation while the greatest coach in our history was interviewing for another job isn’t smart enough to get this.

Beilein is going to be so jealous once he sees us getting coached by a guy like Moser who’s much younger and hotter than John. I can’t wait to see the look on his face.

Couple thoughts/questions…

Why, after Beilein flirted with the NBA, did we hand him a huge extension with no buyout?

I can’t think of a reason for Chris Beard to leave Texas Tech after what he’s done there and how much they ponied up to keep him. Texas guy, coaching in Texas, making 4.5 million, coming off a national title appearance and you’re asking him to make a move to Michigan. I would love this hire but I just can’t see a scenario where he comes to Michigan for both monetary and other reasons. Would be happy to be wrong just can’t see it.

Lastly, would Warde Manuel really put his neck on the line for Mosher as the replacement?

God please no

I don’t know what Warde’s short list looked like. Did someone credible indicate who was on it? If so can you provide a link.

Given that, I can’t answer your question.
