Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

And its source is the fake headline article.

Edit: ya beat me to it, volt

Well darnit haha

Among all the realistic options, Donovan is definitely the safest one.

Been close to a couple of UM searches for hoops and football. The internal committee has largely been comprised of novices, folks that know UM but not the sport at least in a way that I would want.

This has to be a home run hire. Beilein has raised the profile to the point where expectations are high so if a guy comes in and doesn’t experience success early, fans will let Warde have it.

So you hire a search committee comprised of the most knowledgeable folks you can and have them make recommendations on who is right for UM. You do this because you cannot afford to make a mistake.

as far as I am concerned this hire is Wardes job, he’s going be closely tied to the next coach. No reason to give a second shot if this hire doesn’t work.

What he did at Arkansas Little Rock was impressive too. He took a team from last to first place in 3 years.

At Loyola he took a team from 10th and in a weaker conference to 1st in a stronger conference–two years in a row.

Not saying we should prioritize him but I also hope Michigan does not simply go for the “glitzy” and headline grabbing choice. Let’s put it this way: If it was just a two-way race between Shaka Smart and Moser, then Smart would probably make a lot of the fan base feel better in the short term but I would be willing to bet Moser would be the far better choice long term. I think there are several potential coaches out there that might be capable of being our next “brady hoke”. I don’t necessarily think it is obvious that Moser is definitely the one who would prove to be that Brady Hoke type of guy.

This situation we are in is not ideal.

Yeah the reality is that the new coach will be expected to win right away. Not necessarily titles, but winning. Plus a bunch of roster spots will be open for 2020.

The investment has been made. The arena is the best in the conference, best academic public school in conference, practice facility etc.

Any predictions/thoughts out there on timelines of a decision?

If it’s between Moser and Smart, I’d take Moser. Hopefully it doesn’t get that far, Moser has 1 NCAA appearance in 19 years as a D1 head coach. That’s not something that should inspire confidence, I’d rather they hire from within

I would guess a week to 10 days.

Gotta fill out roster, plus deal with any further attrition from recruits/players.

Juwan Howard leading Michigan to the Final Four as a coach would be a huge sports story and a national championship would be the perfect ending to the Fab 5 legacy. Screw it, sign me up!

Where does this Moser love come from?

Yeah, that would my preference based upon my limited perspective–but I don’t know enough about all of the other coaches to be honest. I think Dot is making an awesome recommendation to have a group of experts to investigate the right choice for us.

Crossing my fingers this works out for us.

There’s no Moser love really. It’s just that Sam Webb (and a lot of other sources) are reporting that he’s a frontrunner for the job.

So, put differently, the love seems to be coming from inside the athletic department.

God, I hope they know what they’re doing because the fan base will be upset by that one.

For those interested in some player’s comments about Billy Donovan as a coach, listen to Stuart Douglass’s Not Mainstream Podcast episode with Jon Horford. Not saying Horford’s is the only side to the story, but IIRC, Horford thought Donovan was a psycho. Donovan would certainly be a contrast from John Beilein.

Warde Manuel-“John did it and this league has done it year-in and year-out. We’re not teams full of five stars. We develop talent in the league. It’s a tough league that plays hard, so we’re looking for somebody that can develop talent and coach.”

This quote says it all to me, we will not be going after big time coaches. Maybe it will work out but the Beilein model is a very tough model to replicate. 95% of time recruiting wins out in college basketball.

Goodness just give me Yaklich then.

Lol, that reads like Dave Brandon’s justification for hiring Brady Hoke. Consider my expectations very much lowered.

We can have a big time coach and develop talent at the same time. So if this is Warde’s reasoning for not going after someone big time then I would be incensed.
