Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

I keep seeing how great a job this is all over Twitter and other places, and then they go about listing a bunch marginal at best coaches as candidates

Everything was finally lining up and now our greatest coach ever leaves for a shithole franchise run by a guy who donates millions to a raptist covering up school.

I just knew Beilein had to get sick of this constant extra work every offseason.

Poole and Iggy pushed him over the edge.

Honestly, I think they did. Beilein had to expect more than one year from Iggy.

Keep Iggy and Cumberland and Franz commit.

Ughh, what a nightmare.

Watch Iggy have a horrible combine and want to come back.

I’ve never posted a short list of candidates.

I’ve asked who people would like to be considered.

And have also opined on those that I think might get consideration.

I think I’m going to post less going forward. Got to spend way too much time clarifying stuff.

Lets also realize that good job or not (and it is a top tier job) a big part of the lack of great candidates and options is due to the horrible timing of this. Very late in the game

I don’t really care if we have someone as clean or classy as Beilein. I really only care about how the team performs and how entertaining they are to watch because of the talent they have. I want someone who is a great recruiter and has a great track record. Anyone who says they don’t want Billy Donovan is over thinking this whole thing. He was a good recruiter before and would probably be even better now with NBA experience. He has a great track record and produced incredible seasons at Florida which is somewhat comparable to Michigan as a program. He would be a home run hire and my top choice of the realistic targets and unrealistic targets. It is hard for me to imagine Donovan not having a tremendous amount of success if he ends up leading a college basketball program. I sure hope it is us.

Somewhat related but definitely not top of mind … what happens to a guy like Jon Sanderson? By all accounts, losing him would be a significant consequence of this already huge ordeal.

Please don’t disappear; you’re too good a source of information

Sanderson’s situation depends on who the new coach is…presumably an experienced head coach like Donovan or Marshall would have his own people he’d like to bring with him. Presumably a member of the Beilein/Michigan coaching tree has worked with and is comfortable with Sanderson’s methods and would want to retain him (Sanderson is still under contract after all). Someone like Juwan or Becky Hammond (since someone in here included her name) would likely be hired with the caveat that they retain certain staff (Sanderson probably being high on that list).

He’d probably have his choice of top gigs around the country under normal circumstances. Timing would probably be an issue though.

Sigh. Don’t post less because of me. My misinterpretation of your list was an error of respect.

name I haven’t seen mentioned that I think could emerge, Frank Martin

Steve Prohm looks to me like a really good option.

Beilein was friends with him. I think roomed together at a coaching clinic and became friends. I am pretty sure that led to the home and home series.

Just randomly checked the assistants’ twitter accounts- none had a congrats or thank you post

Not sure if it means anything.

I might be wrong, but if Iggy had stayed, there wouldn’t have been room for both Cumberland and Franz - just one of 'em. Not that it matters at this point.

Love the way the list has all of eight guys on it, and drops from 26 percent naming Beilein to 10 for Brey, down to 5 for Izzo. Jeebus.

with JB’s national involvement with coaches and a large network, is it realistic to assume he may indirectly be advising on who warde should target?
