Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

No other list matters, since Sam is framing that as the AD’s preference.

Tbh, we need another “March on Schlissel’s lawn”

I’d rather risk the program future on Yaklich.

Juwan’s NBA credentials are impressive, but is he just a pro guy at this point?

Let’s hope there are more lists than 1.0

I don’t necessarily think it would be the end of the world if none of the other potential coaches worked out and we got stuck with Moser. He might actually prove to be very good down the line…I would prefer a safer bet, for sure though.

Hiring Porter Moser is the Brady Hoke move.

Go out of the box. The reality is the next hire probably won’t be as good as Beilein.

Actually I don’t have a list. What I’ve done is openly discussed the possibility of Beilein leaving and some who MIGHT be considered and some who would not. And before I go further on this, let me point to the last time we had a discussion about a search for a new coach and how that was taken by some jerks on message boards out of context or as straight up fabrication; intentionally or by neglect.

When Amaker was fired I was asked to submit a list of people I thought should be considered. In fact I’m looking at the email I forwarded at the time.

There were tiers:

First tier consisted of guys I thought UM as leaders and best should take a run at:

Thad Matta
Jamie Dixon
Jay Wright
Paul Hewitt
Billy Donovan

Tier two: These are guys that would be favored in the event UM wasn’t willing to go gun-ho after the top tier guys. In fact I was eventually informed that money would be an issue:

Sean Miller
Lon Kruger

Then there was tier 3: Guys I thought should be considered and would likely be receptive to coming:

Anthony Grant
Kevin Stallings
John Beilein
Anthony Grant
Karl Hobbs
Chris Lowery

Turns out that Stallings, Lowery Beilein we’re interviewed. Don’t know one way or the other if UM reached out to the others.

I made it clear to the search committee members that my list was only to identify folks that I considered to be good coaches and worthy of an interview. Not guys that I wanted them to select because I lacked sufficient familiarity with them to be able to call for a hiring. As is the case now, I implored them to engaged with people who know enough about college basketball for purposes of evaluating real coaching talent and not get caught up in making headlines.

With that said, and hoping that what I say going forward won’t be subject to some of the same bullshit interpretation as was the case before. Though I know that buttwipes going to do just that.

UM has been developing a list since Coach B had his health issue. I don’t know who has made the cut, just know that they have prepared for this happening.

As was the case then, I expect that I will Be asked for suggestions. As was the case when Beilein was hired, I would let them know that they first need to surround themselves with great basketball minds, folks that can identify real coaching ability and not be consumed with headline grabbing.

One last thing, UM will not come coach to approaching guys with spots on their reputations. Many of the names that have been suggested by fans I know have already been eliminated because of character concerns. Fans need to accept that the first priority is finding the right “fit” for UM.

Hope I’m abundantly clear. Especially for those inclined to take what I say elsewhere.

I will update as information comes available.

Ugh, dear lord…who’s on that list?

dot… great stuff… question, why hire a search firm if you are prepared and have a list?

Do you mind posting for us here that list of who you think might and will not be considered? Thanks!

always need middle men in high profile hire

I think we probably agree on Brady Hoke but disagree about Porter Moser. I don’t think it will fall to him, nor should it, but I don’t think their recent success was some kind of Homer Simpson happy accident.

He had good (not great) players playing very very good. Whether or not there was a ton of luck involved remains to be seen. I seriously doubt it.

Mitch Albom wrote in Fab Five about how unjust it was that Michigan was selling merchandise while Chris Webber got nothing. So, what people say isn’t always what happens.

RE: LA Wolverine – I prefer to believe that Michigan’s staff isn’t actively organizing pay-for-play or pay-for-recruit, but there’s no way that there isn’t stuff that goes on. It goes on EVERYWHERE in major college football. Remember, some of the key under-oath testimony in the recent trial stated that a Michigan football player or players had been paid.

It’s like doping in cycling in the Lance Armstrong era. There were no positive tests, but that just meant that everyone was getting away with it.

I hate the fit part, yeah fit is important but getting the best coach should be the priority.

I just hope we give Steve Prohm an interview. I love watching him coach.

Whoa. Too far. Next you’re gonna tell me Arizona is paying players under Sean Miller. Just crazy.

While i wish Coach B the best the timing just seem all kinds of odd to me. That and the fact that no one had a clue this was going to happen to include the kids that commited for this upcoming season . The new coach is going to have to come in hit the recruiting trail to keep the commits and he still needs to fill 3 roster spots. Alot to be done for sure!

The new coach also has to recruit the current players on the roster to stay.
