Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

If our actual list is Porter Moser and Lavall Jordan then RIP to the great times our program had over the last decade

Just one caveat: some reports state that Beilein may keep his house in A2. They reportedly love it here. I think that having to completely rebuild his teams year after year had begun to look pretty fugly for him. And as some of us noted when the Poole-Matthews-Brazdeikas announcements came in, Beilein had performed an amazing high-wire act despite it, but there was zero guarantee that he could perform a miracle every year.

I am really down on the college game, I have to admit. The Dukes and KY’s have already harmed the game greatly, and I don’t see where a recovery in integrity is coming from–certainly not from the NCAA/

Stevens will be interesting if he and Celtics part away, but he will be constantly rumored for NBA vacancies if he goes back to college.

I’ll take 2/3 years of Stevens.

Sure, but he could have his pick of NBA jobs right now too. It would be a bit like Harbaugh…the rumors would be there, but he also has a credible story to tell about, if that’s what he wanted, he could have just stayed there. Like @hack, I’d be willing to take that chance…

unless we dump the bank in his yard (~7M), i dont see stevens coming back to college

I got attacked for saying it, but if Beilein was gonna be so particular about fit in terms of players, you have to put more effort into retaining them.

Like you can’t say unpack your bags, then say I will drive you to the airport if you want to leave. The preliminary feedback Iggy got was worse than Poole (mostly late second round).

You tell the kid stay and work.

My list in no order

  • Donovan
  • Mack
  • Cronin
  • Stevens although think no shot
  • Marshall
  • Jordan and/or current staff would be only if could not land any of the above.

I don’t think you meant to reply to me, but I wholeheartedly disagree with what you are saying. You trying to hold them hostage or something?

My list, in order of preference:

  • Stevens (almost surely a no)
  • Donovan (maybe?)
  • Prohm (possibly)
  • White (possibly)

Anything after that is kind of 50/50 in my eyes.

I wasn’t really talking about those guys saying no, moreso those are names I agree Michigan should try to reach out to.

And I’ll take lucking my way to a national title over dominating my way to not runner up 100/100 times, fwiw.

Sorry meant as a comment not reply.

But if you are gonna be so delicate and deliberate with offers, might need to work more to retain guys.

The pattern 4 elite coaches who seemed unattainable are that you have to get them when they are at a sort of crossroads in their career and more open to a big change than they otherwise might be. There is reason to believe Stevens might be at that point, and as well Ainge has used up most of his assets and Horford is getting old. I don’t see why Mark Few would NOT be at that point, or could not be convinced that he is. He’s made a couple of runs, and probably knows he can’t get real-contender status on a regular basis now without being somewhere that’s an easier sell to recruits. Donovan is very possibly at a crossroads.

Mack and Wright don’t seem to me to fit that bill. Both have local connections where they are and sometimes being in prime program near your home makes you truly on unattainable.

Michigan has the funds to essentially buy almost any coach in the country if they truly want to, including Stevens or Donovan. We will see how much the Athletic department now values basketball compared to in the past.

Yep, Michigan could have been better during the late 90s to 2007 if the adminsteation invested.

Or Chris beard, who left UNLV in a similar situation.

Screw 7, Stevens is so good and such a perfect fit he’s worth 10mil easy. He’s not coming here though.

The crazy thing is based on the lists I have seen thus far from dot, Webb and rivals um honestly had better options with more impressive resumes in 2007(beilein, Miller, Bennett and Krueger) and 2001(Pitino, Sampson, amaker) than it seems right now.

I like Mark Few just hard to imagine he leaves but yes I like the fit especially his success with international player may help with Franz.
