Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

You make a convincing argument. I’m now out on Marshall

Just to throw a name out there, who is probably dirtier than most so unlikely to be a real candidate, but seems to be a good coach of the sport of basketball and may want a bigger stage…

How about Altman at Oregon?

Just signed a contract extension, and not sure on buyout terms, but makes less than $3M per year.

In his nine years with the Ducks, Altman has recorded an overall record of 230–95 and is just one of only six active head coaches in Division I basketball with a current streak of at least 22 straight winning seasons. He was named the 2013 National Coach of the Year and is a three-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

Under his leadership, the Ducks advanced to the 2017 Final Four and made two Elite Eight appearances (2016, 2017) and three Sweet 16s (2013, 2016, 2017).

You can believe that Michigan football is clean. It doesn’t make it true, but I can’t stop you from believing it🤷‍♂️

Altman is a really bad human being beyond being dirty

I believe you, just unfamiliar. What’s that based on?

clean is relative and i believe M football is clean

Worse sexual assault scandal than anything Izzo’s covered up IIRC

Ok well if your definition of clean includes “pays players”, sure. Most don’t have that definition, but you do you. Again, I can’t change how y’all look at the situation.

Not sure why a search firm is needed. Nonetheless:

Thanks…def missed that. Agreed we don’t want that type of thing anywhere near the program.

I swear these search firms are a racket

Found a link.

It’s too bad, he actually would be an interesting candidate if not for the terrible human being thing.

The use of a search firm is a racket, but it does give an easy idea of whos interested in the job

If Michigan hired Dana Altman I would cease being a fan. Full stop.

Thankfully I can’t fathom that actually happening (nor being a remote possibility)!

Lazy stuff in this BQ tweet. I like BQ, but if a guy like Beilein likes new challenges and is willing to uproot his family, then there will be at least one guy on that list willing to do exactly the same. If Beilein can look at the Cavs and see an attractive challenge, other coaches seen as unlikely to move will look at Michigan in the very same way. If these guys really are competitive people who want to win, you’d think that an elite senior PG/C combo with lots of nice pieces around them and a place where you can recruit very well is a package far more attractive in a college context than Collin Sexton, a 14% shot at Zion and Dan Gilbert as your boss is in an NBA context. Beilein was clearly ready to be done with college ball in a way that most coaches are not. He had a great senior class and Franz Wagner on a plane and walked out on that.

Which is to say that any of the stuff we hear about the likelihood of this coach or that coach is surely guesswork, from people who have to say something about this and aren’t paid to say nothing. BQ wasn’t surprised at Beilein’s departure because he watches him closely. He doesn’t watch all those other guys as closely.

My own guess would be that Wright and Mack have ties to the area/school, and that often makes a difference. Beard left UNLV on the altar; Stevens is at the crossroads in Boston. Few perhaps would relish the opportunity to step up recruiting that Michigan would offer. You don’t say no to Bennett, but he lucked his way out of the Chokers Region this year, so not at the top of my list.

In my mind, they’re kind of like a corporate CEO hiring an outside consultant: they’re a CYA. They help an AD say to the fan base “see, it’s a real, national search”. And then if the hire eventually turns out badly: “But that was the search firm’s recommendation”

And you can believe the opposite. No problem. I just haven’t seen a shred of evidence to support that. But please don’t tell me you think Michigan football pays players but UNC basketball runs a clean program?

Having read many comments from former players, I am a believer too.

Lavert Hill was wearing a shirt that said last year being broke. Maybe our guys get free food at places and stuff like that, but I doubt we are giving them anything.

Probably reading in too much, but this sounds more like desperation not to fork the thing up than determination to get the best person. If it means he’s not even making the decision. . .
