This graph illustrates the 2-point shooting defensive trend I mentioned.
Size of points correspond to difficulty
Circles = non-con
Squares = Conf.
Diamonds = Conf. tourney
Stars = Post-season
Green for win, red for loss.
Nowhere to put this random observation but today’s game really made me curious.
Jordan Poole absolutely LOVES shooting 3s in the second half of home games. Whatever it is with that hoop or being by their bench, he’s been on fire for two years.
Self-admittedly I might’ve missed some stats, Iowa last year for example doesn’t have broken out by half statistics, but:
- For conference play only last year: 9/15 (60%)
- All home games so far this year: 14/19 (73.6%)
- Total: 23/34 (67.6%)
67.6% second half shooter at home. That’s crazy. (Non-con of last year omitted)
There are only two highlights/takeaways from this game:
-
Uber-sick dunk from Iggy.
-
Eli shows us what he can do. He can drive the hoop and throw alleyoops, he just needs more confidence. He has a high ceiling.
I don’t sense a confidence problem at the moment. He has been playing well as of late. I actually think the offense flows better with him in the game, but Simpson gives us a lot on defense and team attitude.
Poole handling ball more also helps Eli
Is this random return to the mean, or teams exploiting poor matchups? Team defense issue?
Air Force is a top-40 team in 2P% this season, Michigan held them to slightly under their average too actually. IMO I’m not super concerned last game.
Bump:
Poole 2/3 from three in Binghamton second half.
Found the Iowa game from last year I missed, went 0/2.
16/22 from three now in second half home games. 25/39 since Big Ten play last year.
(I find this a pretty remarkable stat, especially for this year ¯_(ツ)_/¯)
Poole’s now at 50% (34-68) from three on the season. Pretty incredible
Really is! Especially with the cold start. This isn’t a little hot streak either, he’s been ON FIRE for practically the whole season now since that cold streak ended.
